One million Canadian men suffer from major depressive disorder each year. Three of every four completed suicides in Canada are by men. The prevalence of alcohol use disorder is twice as high in men with another mental health diagnosis than in the general population. One third of Canadian men worry that talking about mental health at work could put their job at risk. Men are just as likely as women to have mental health issues yet are far less likely to utilize traditional mental health services. Men are more likely to believe that mental health services are difficult to access, ineffective and invasive. At Cogent, Ontario’s new mental health clinic focussed solely on supporting men, we’re changing that.

Have you found yourself wanting help and support, yet others in your life think of you as the “strong” one and don't see your pain? Perhaps you work in a helping profession and don’t know where to turn for your own therapy. Anxiety, depression, or even burn out can lead to feeling lost and lonely. Maybe you have people with personality disorders in your life that make you doubt yourself or make the “easy” things very difficult. Many people are feeling disconnected from their community, themselves and the larger "something more". Creating a safe space where you can be heard and understood is the foundation of my work.

Building connections with ourselves and others is one of the most important components of a fulfilling life. However, negative messages from the world and our past experiences/ traumas can often make us feel like we are not good enough. This negative self-talk and self-doubt can make it difficult to form meaningful connections and enjoy life the way we want to, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, confused, or stuck.

Stress, anxiety and depression can quickly take over our lives. This survival mode protects our authentic self yet, in the long term, creates disconnect and misery. I believe that we each have the innate ability to return to our authentic selves as we slowly re-connect to our body and change survival patterns. This belief drives me in collaborating with you to move into your own sense of aliveness. My genuine presence and sensitivity supports creating a safe space for you to start letting go of survival mode and try out a new way of being.

I believe seeking therapy is a courageous act of self-care, especially when facing the isolation of anxiety, depression, or other challenges. Many people feel overwhelmed by life’s pressures, uncertain about their path, and in need of a safe space to explore their thoughts and emotions. I work from an intersectional approach, realizing how various aspects of identity—culture, race, gender, and more—shape our experiences and well-being. No single part of our identity defines us; instead, I see each person as a whole, complex individual, and I work alongside them to uncover their strengths, foster growth, and create meaningful change.
