I specialize in working with people who have experienced trauma. Trauma is defined by a distressing or disturbing experience. You do not have to be diagnosed with PTSD to have experienced trauma in your life, sometimes it presents as the feeling of being “stuck” or feeling isolated from ourselves and others. I work with people who have experienced both physical and mental traumas as well as people who have anxiety, depression as well as loss and grief. I think it is important for people to know that regardless of what your difficult experience is, no matter how “big or small” you think it might be, it is worthy of support.

We all long to be heard... to have someone witness and lovingly validate our struggles, our painful suffering and our greatest achievements. Did you know that healing happens when we feel we are in a trusting, truly compassionate therapeutic relationship? You probably give more to others than to yourself but you don't know why. You may be burned out, overwhelmed, a PTSD/sexual abuse survivor - or possibly suffering from Covid-fatigue; depressed. anxious and totally stressed out? Your inner voice won't quit and you are so hard on yourself. You are not alone. It would be an honour to help you add peace and joy into your life.

Your life looks great on the outside. You have all the things that should make you happy but you don’t feel that way. You may be struggling with anxiety, unresolved past trauma, or relationship dissatisfaction. Maybe you've been using substances more than usual to cope with feeling overwhelmed, either on edge or just completely disconnected like you’re running on autopilot. You’re used to handling your own problems so it can be hard to ask for help. Other people don’t understand, they think you are fine.

I have a lifelong passion for advocating for the personal wellbeing and for the support of others on their personal journey through the peaks and valleys of life. I am passionate about helping people who are struggling in their everyday lives to recover and regain their mental health. I transitioned to the mental health sector after working in the corporate world in many different settings which gave me an extensive life experience. I’ve pastored for over 20 years, and in that role have provided therapy to help clients work through personal conflicts, spiritual issues and marriage and family problems.

Accepting NEW clients. I am a registered psychotherapist with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. I have been working in mental health for over 20 years supporting individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, family issues, grief, as well as those who feel stressed or “stuck.” We are all unique, so over the years, I have developed a background in different counselling approaches because there is no one-size-fits-all solution for everyone. I use new, cutting-edge treatments informed by neuroscience, like EMDR and Brainspotting. I also practice more traditional “talk” therapies, like CBT.

I will work with you to help develop conscious awareness of your automatic thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that contribute to your circumstances. This is the first step towards changing unhelpful patterns in your life. I’m here to listen and provide a safe space for you to talk through these unconscious patterns and bring them into your awareness; examine them with curiosity and self-compassion; begin to understand how these patterns developed; and finally, to work towards getting unstuck, so that you can begin to exercise greater flexibility and conscious choice over how you respond to external events in your life.

I have been a social worker for over a decade. I enjoy helping adults, parents and youth to enjoy more connection in their relationships, to experience more emotional regulation and less depression and anxiety, and to live their best lives. I’m trained in attachment focused family therapy, trauma treatment, DDP, EMDR, CBT and other modalities. I believe that therapy works best when you feel emotionally safe and accepted for all of who you are. This frees us to share our true thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment, and thus to feel less alone and be able to explore our mind and life in connection with another.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
