Maybe you have tried therapy in the past or explored different venues to overcome difficult situations, but you feel stuck! I have experience working with adults, children/adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief/loss, codependency tendencies, emotional/physical abuse, sexual abuse as well as life transition stressors. I also work with couples providing an active participation to identify their issue, focusing on change-oriented interventions guiding both to understand their individual roles and learn new harmonious strategies.

I offer evidence-based treatment approaches to problems of anxiety, stress, depression, burnout, and codependency.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by stress and anxiety, struggling to navigate life's challenges? Too often we believe that our downfalls define us, rather than guide us and illuminate a path of learning and becoming. We feel alone as we mask our imperfections to morph into a world we believe rewards otherwise. Yet, in our loneliness lives an unspoken unity because we each carry the weight of our mask. I understand the complexity of emotions that arise in difficult times. If you're seeking to understand and manage your emotions, you've got to the right place. I'm here to help.

“Is this forever?” You might be asking yourself this question when you’re struggling and feeling overwhelmed, especially if you’re recovering from abuse, trauma, or illness. Sometimes we lose track of what we want and need moment-to-moment, believing we need permission to want and need anything at all. It is this sense of being “stuck” that often brings clients to therapy. Having a witness—and a safe place to be witnessed—can support us in moving through and beyond life’s most challenging moments. With awareness of our patterns, automatic responses, and bodily sensations, we can start to feel our way out of that “forever” feeling.

Do you find yourself overreacting to things that don’t seem to phase the people around you? Maybe you can’t keep it together at work, your kids set you off, or waiting in traffic makes you sweat. Over time, struggling to cope effectively with your life’s stressors can leave you feeling like something is wrong with you, that you’re all alone, and worse still, like there’s nothing you can do to help yourself.

Regardless of the path that we decide to embark on, there are moments when we may feel as though we don't have the resources to cope. Having someone to bear witness to our suffering and support us as we explore our internal resiliency can be life-changing. Working in the mental health field for over 9 years has shown me that stress, depression, trauma, etc. does not discriminate, nor should it be a defining part of who we are.

Starting therapy can feel foreign. Providing a space to explore, challenge and sometimes sit with different emotions, memories, and feelings can help understand our connectivity to our internal and external world, and process difficult and challenging obstacles. I create a compassionate, open, and empowering space while you explore past, present and/or future obstacles and issues. I can help with: anxiety, depression, trauma/complex PTSD/PTSD, bereavement, self-esteem, depersonalization, communication, family conflict, and general life stressors. Ultimately, one of the key goals is to feel a stronger connection to yourself.

You look around the crowded room full of friends, family, colleagues or strangers and think to yourself… How do they make it look so easy? Why can't I find that happiness within myself and surrounded by others? I know I have; it is part of the human experience to feel uncertain or lost at some point in our lives. Whether that be trauma from childhood or the present day, anxiety, depression, a breakup, marital stress or grief - I commend you for making it here onto my profile and courageously taking that first step.

Viktor Frankl said: "When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." Therapy isn't about getting the right answer, it's about making choices that move you forward. Many aspects of life are out of our control. If we focus on our decisions, we'll find greater contentment. Little shifts make a big difference. In my office, laughter, cursing, crying or yelling are welcome. I have curious questions, off-the-wall metaphors, and shift gears as required.

If you choose to work with me I will strive to create a safe, respectful and meaningful relationship with you. I will listen carefully, with empathy and without judgement. Sometimes I ask a lot of questions in order to understand, to the best of my ability, what things are like for you. In working together to help me understand your story, usually what happens is that things start to make more sense for you too. Confusion often gives way to clarity. Feelings such as anxiety, anger, depression and isolation often subside as well.

Welcome! I am a Registered Social Worker with over 16 years of experience. My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, grief, postpartum depression and trauma. Life can be challenging, perhaps you have noticed you are experiencing lower moods, or find yourself worrying too much. You may have faced a transition in life that has been hard on you. I believe our well being is related to having the ability to face whatever situations we may be up against. However, sometimes we need support to make this happen in our lives.

Codependency Counsellors

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
