Life can feel overwhelming at times. Uncertainty, unexpected challenges and self-doubt can weigh us down. Carrying such weight can cause us to experience fatigue, worry, sleepless nights, and unwanted behaviours, thoughts and emotions. Imagine what it would be like if some of that weight could be lifted. I offer compassionate care for people with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, grief and trauma. Based on an integrative mix of both person-centred and psychodynamic approaches, I endeavour to inspire compassionate self-understanding with an aim towards inner healing.

In my 19 years of professional counselling, I have received specialized training to help people with marital, relationship, and family conflicts; traumatic brain injuries; impulse control; personality disorders; anger management; trauma; anxiety; depression; and grieving and living through major life changes like divorce or the death of a loved one.
Change is a difficult and humbling process. Patience, kindness, and self-forgiveness are often not lessons we learned as children. Talk therapy isn’t about advice or guidance; it’s about learning to listen to your decision-making processes, noticing your emotions, understanding the needs you're trying to meet, discovering your value system, and making small, deliberate changes. In session, we'll tailor our work to fit your goals. Seeking therapy takes courage. I congratulate you for it.

I also have experience working with individuals with Traumatic brain injuries and children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities.
Attempting to avoid painful or distressing thoughts and feelings is natural - we all do it. However, the more we try to control our emotional experiences, the more challenges it creates. I utilize a client-centered approach, drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and EMDR to guide my work with clients. Noticing and naming our feelings is the first step to gaining more control over our bodies and learning to live a meaningful life that aligns with our values and goals.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Counsellors

When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.

What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilisation, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counselling.

How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?

The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.

What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?

If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
