The Centre for Psychodynamic Insights is a virtual clinic specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This approach explores the root causes of symptoms by uncovering and understanding underlying emotions through evidence-based treatment. Through collaborative dialogue, we examine unconscious thoughts and emotions shaped from childhood to the present. We work to relieve symptoms by understanding how these patterns affect current experiences, and create targeted strategies for meaningful change long-term.

Therapeutic approaches like EMDR and Somatic therapy are used to help safely address the traumas that persistently affect and dysregulate the nervous system and to support in re-training the brain and body to function more adaptively and with more ease.
Life is beautiful but it is also hard, exhausting, sad, messy and temperamental. Coping with the intense pressures and stress we face can be very challenging and isolating. I believe therapy is about having a relationship where we can safely and authentically explore and discover where we tend to hide parts of ourselves, run away, and hold back our truth from the world. Together we will explore this in a manner that welcomes and supports your whole being to foster an ongoing process of self-awareness, healing and self development - and towards you moving in the world with greater resiliency, authenticity and a deeper sense of self.

It's important that you acknowledge yourself for taking the step to find a therapist who can provide guidance. In my forty years of experience I've learned that a big part of the healing occurs as a result of the relationship between client and psychotherapist. When this relationship is grounded in safety and compassion, the relationship healing occurs. My working style is client centered and collaborative. It invites self-inquiry and body awareness leading to a deeper understanding of issues and their root causes.

Do you long to feel truly seen and supported? I know what it’s like to hold everything together on the outside while quietly falling apart inside. In early adulthood, I went through a period of burnout and emotional overwhelm—and it wasn’t until I connected with someone who truly listened that things began to shift. As a Pre-Licensed Professional and MA in Counselling Psychology student under clinical supervision, I now offer that same compassionate presence to others.

The fundamental challenge of trauma and conditioning is that they cross our wiring so that our brains assess anything that is familiar as "safe" even if it hurts or depletes us and anything that is new as "threat" even if it holds the key to our freedom and well-being. My job is to inspire and support you in moving into territory that is new and therefor scary but promises to provide the long-term, sustainable energy required to have a life that is peaceful, spacious and nourishing to you.

Managing our relationships, work, school, and life changes can feel overwhelming. You may be overthinking about friends, jobs and relationships, or having a difficult time developing and maintaining positive relationships with family, friends, or partners. While these challenges pile up, anxiety, anger, and sadness can start to cloud our thinking making it hard to tackle what we're experiencing on our own. Therapy can help us cope with what we're are going through, while also helping us learn more about ourselves along the way and regain control over parts of our life we felt we lost.

Incorporating the mind and body, I draw from relational, psychodynamic, somatic, attachment based and trauma focused frameworks.
Life can feel challenging at times, leaving you feeling overwhelmed or stuck. You may be experiencing feelings of sadness, worry, anger, shame, fear, grief or despair. Struggling with difficult emotions can take away from living in the present moment. Instead you may find yourself dealing with anxiety, self-criticism, over-thinking, reliving painful memories and stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Together we will slow things down so we can explore your experiences and the parts of you that may be hard to understand.

Maybe it exploded in one or more of your relationships, and you don’t know what to do, but you feel unspeakably lost or lonely about it. Maybe at times you’ve given up on life being worth living. Maybe other times you put on a game face, and folks have no idea what you're (not really), holding together. Or maybe it's your partner or kiddo going through this, and you need support yourself. I believe in the innate ability of every individual to grow and heal, sometimes we need help. For twenty five years I have had the privilege of working with individuals, couples, families and groups on their healing journeys. I work with an anti-oppression and client-centered perspective, which celebrates the unique needs of every client I see. Therapy is an evolving collaboration that needs a safe space to explore challenging feelings, thoughts and relationships in support of new insights, repair, and connection.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
