My ideal client feels overwhelmed by their emotions or stuck in patterns they can’t seem to shift. They may struggle with emotional dysregulation, complex trauma, relationship difficulties, perfectionism, low self-worth, substance use, or eating and body image concerns. Some also navigate the unique challenges of neurodivergence and want support that feels genuinely affirming. They’re seeking clarity, steadiness, and a more grounded, compassionate way of understanding themselves and moving through the world.

At times, life can feel confusing or overwhelming—especially when we notice ourselves repeating patterns in relationships, feeling stuck in painful emotions, or questioning why certain struggles keep resurfacing. Whether you are seeking support as an individual or as part of a couple, therapy can offer a space to slow down and explore these experiences with curiosity and compassion. Together, we can begin to understand what may be shaping these patterns and work toward creating more meaningful and fulfilling ways of living and relating.

Stress and anxiety are a daily part of many people's lives. After all, we live in a fast-paced culture where expectations, from ourselves and others, is ever-increasing. It is understandable to feel strained by your responsibilities, but are they weighing you down more than they are bringing you joy? Perhaps you want to make a life change but don't know how? Through counselling, also known as "talk therapy", I can help put you on the path to reaching your goals and taking control of your life.

I’m certified in Terry Real’s Relational Life Therapy (RLT) and trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, and I create a space that is empathic, direct, and non-judgmental.
I believe our relationships, with ourselves and others, can be sources of both deep joy and pain. In my own life and marriage, I’ve experienced how our families and broader social contexts shape how we show up and connect. Together, we’ll explore your past to better understand the present, and identify recurring cycles that may be keeping you stuck.

Some days you don't recognize yourself. You have hope, even just a glimmer of it, that you can find your way (back) to a place that feels healthier and more true to who you are and what you want out of life. There are more questions than answers and you're searching, but it's not always easy. Dealing with the biggest and hardest aspects of life are hard to manage, and they are also an invitation for opportunity and growth.

I offer a warm, grounded, relational space where you can land just as you are. Together, we make room for what hurts, what feels stuck, and what may be asking for attention. My work is rooted in Gestalt therapy and guided by the belief that healing happens through awareness, honest contact, and a deeper relationship with yourself. In our work, we slow down and listen — not only to your thoughts, but to your body, emotions, breath, and nervous system. So often, we become disconnected from ourselves in the effort to cope, survive, or keep going. Therapy can be a place to return.

I draw from DBT, IFS, EFT, MBCT, and other evidence-based approaches to offer flexible, client-centred care.
Self-acceptance feels like shedding a heavy coat you didn’t even realize you were wearing. It’s the quiet relief of no longer needing to hide parts of yourself, the sense of freedom in knowing you no longer have to justify your feelings to anyone — including yourself. It's like stepping into sunlight after years of being in the shadows, where every step forward feels lighter. It’s knowing you’re worthy of love, belonging, and happiness — just as you are. I'm Mel, and I’m a Registered Psychotherapist with a passion for providing affirming and inclusive mental health care to individuals of all sexual and gender identities.

Life can be challenging. It brings moments of joy, moments of struggle, and everything in between. During difficult times, emotions like sadness, anxiety, fear, or hopelessness can feel overwhelming. I certainly do understand what it feels like to be at the center of one of these storms, and I want to help you navigate your own — to learn to drop an anchor and steady yourself. Even painful chapters can hold meaning, and they shape the way I approach therapy: as a place for growth and resilience, where we cultivate a supportive space that is ultimately centered on helping you.

I integrate Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT), Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO), Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MiCBT), Compassion-Focused, and Insight-Oriented Psychotherapies to create a tailored and holistic experience for each client.
Many people enter relationships hoping for closeness, safety, and understanding but find themselves stuck in cycles of miscommunication, unresolved conflict, or lingering mistrust. On the outside, life may look stable and successful, yet inside, you might feel unseen, unheard, or disconnected from yourself and your partner. I work with individuals and couples to explore what lies beneath these patterns: the protective habits, unspoken fears, and old wounds that once kept you safe but now keep you distant. Together, we uncover the roots of these dynamics, helping you reconnect - to yourself, your partner, and the life you want.

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, especially when things feel overwhelming or hard to make sense of. In therapy, we will focus on what is concerning you right now, while also exploring how past experiences may be influencing present challenges, often through patterns we may not have previously noticed. With over six years of experience working with adults, young people, and families, I support clients with concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges.

You've probably been doing your best to manage on your own. Maybe depression has quietly taken the colour out of things, anxiety is making everyday decisions harder than they should be, or ADHD is making it difficult to stay on top of your life. Maybe you're processing a trauma, navigating a relationship change, or facing a transition that you didn't see coming. We help people work through these exact types of challenges. We also charge on a sliding scale to make therapy accessible. We're a real, established clinic operating for over a decade in Toronto's east end. Not a freshly minted practice and not a virtual-only platform.

How to find hope? How do you heal the ache you feel inside? If you are lost, engaging in therapy can help you find a way forward! You want to be at PEACE with yourself and the people around you. You want to follow your dreams, be part of something that matters, and live to your LIFE to fullest potential. However, you may be at a low point and feel afraid and alone. You may have more bad days than good days. Regardless of the type of struggle, it is possible to move to a better place.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
