I use Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals in order to help my clients connect with their partners, as well as with their deeper selves.
If you are seeking to develop a deep, loving, committed relationship with your partner, to be the parent you wish you had, or to connect with your authentic self, I can be your ally and guide. With thirty years of experience, I understand the importance of emotional connection, self-awareness and reflection, unlearning negative patterns and healing from trauma. There are also times, where our experience is beyond words and a deeper approach is required. Helping clients create the changes they want in their lives is my goal.

I weave together several modalities including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness approaches and parts work (IFS informed).
Do you find yourself stuck in the same patterns, struggling to find better ways to address situations even though you know what you're doing isn't working? By focusing on relationships and attachment, I can help you get unstuck, and gain greater insight into why you do what you do, and what else might be helpful. Navigate and heal the burdens you carry. Move forward from painful dynamics. Be the best person you can be. Build the kind of relationships you desire. As a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Psychotherapist, I offer individual therapy, couples counselling, and family therapy (18+).

I often use a client centred approach that includes Internal Families Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT) with older clients.
Currently accepting virtual clients. It can be difficult to find a culturally sensitive counsellor who understands the affects of colonization and systemic racism and the trauma that it has caused, who also understands the struggles of questioning your identity. I offer a solution that could help, sometimes we hold trauma in our nervous systems and this can make things difficult for us. You have the power to release some of that trauma and you don't have to do it alone.

These approaches, grounded in neuroscience and attachment theory, empower clients to access their inner strengths and unlock their potential for growth. Emotionally Focused Counsellors

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
