Your unique experiences and pain deserve to be given attention and care, and through this process we can discover and heal what is hindering you from living your life to the fullest.

In sessions, I draw from various modalities, such as Attachment-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Is it hard to stay present and enjoy your day-to-day life? Are you experiencing anxiety, relationship issues, or the effects of unresolved trauma? While the highs and lows are an inevitable part of life, you don’t have to face them alone. Whether you’re navigating a rough patch or have years of challenges to unpack, I would be honoured to provide you with a safe space where you can feel heard, understood, and celebrated.

I am also trained in CBT, DBT, Attachment-Based Parenting, ASIST, and currently training in the Gottman Method to Couples Counselling.
I believe that challenges can be beautiful, albeit deeply painful, opportunities to create a life you feel inspired to live There is hope in every situation, and often life’s greatest lessons are learned during its biggest obstacles. Life's not always easy. Hardships and transitions can blindside you and leave you feeling like you’re just trying to survive, and on autopilot. And then the questions come: Who am I? How did I get here? The life you have doesn’t reflect the one you imagined. While we can not change the past, we can choose to create meaning in our experiences, and determine how its legacy comes forward with us.

I work with adults on an individual basis, who experience a wide range of concerns: depression, anxiety, sexual concerns, burnout, insecurities, past emotional wounds, family issues and more, using psychodynamic, gestalt, attachment-based and trauma-informed therapies.
Do you feel stuck, stressed, anxious, lonely, empty or overwhelmed? Are you struggling with finding your voice, wanting more from your relationships or trying to navigate the intricate terrain of emotions, trauma, and loss? Life can be tough and confusing, and I am here to offer safety and support for you to sit and turn inwards. I believe that relief, healing and growth comes from self-understanding, cultivating innate internal resources, breaking self-defeating cycles, and improving relationship dynamics. In therapy, we will look at who you are, what you want and what you need.

I work from a client-centred, attachment-based lens and I have training in ACT, CBT, EMDR, polyvagal theory, self-compassion therapy and mindfulness.
Are you anxious and insecure in relationships? Do you people-please, ruminate, avoid conflict, and put loved ones' needs before your own? When others are upset, do you assume you did something wrong and feel responsible for their emotions? If so, let's get to the root of your attachment and the past experiences which shaped how you think, feel and act today as an adult. With self-awareness and kindness, we can build secure strategies to 1) share your needs assertively and create healthy communication, 2) increase a sense of "home" and peace in your body, 3) regulate your emotions, 4) enjoy the gift of the present with those we love.

In my work, I use a combination of modalities including Somatic Experiencing, Somatic Inner Relationship Focusing, as well as Polyvagal, Relational, Attachment-Based, and Narrative approaches.
For over 30 years, trauma has been a consistent thread woven throughout the experiences of those I have served in the course of my social work practice. I have been privileged to support a variety of people across a diverse range of ages and needs in both community and institutional settings. As a result of my personal and professional experiences, I have come to believe that adversity is a call to growth and that everyone has the requisite resources/skills to achieve their goals.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
