We are each on our own path or journey through life. Sometimes the way is easy and other times it is not. Therapy may help us explore whatever we have encountered along the way. I work with individuals 18 and above who are interested in exploring paths walked before while developing strategies for wellness on the journey forward. My goal is to walk with you for a time along your path where we can co-create a space to reflect, learn and grow.

You know what you need to do: Worry less. Sleep more. React appropriately. Be more disciplined. Control your temper. Say ‘no’ more. Take better care of yourself. And you’d do them too, if only your job weren’t so stressful, day-to-day life was easier, someone would help out…if only it weren’t a pandemic, you weren’t plagued by your past, you weren’t so scattered. But 'if only' never comes and the things you know you should do, don’t happen. In quiet moments, you wonder if it’ll always be like this. You want to change. You want hope. You want ease. What if I told you that the ease you seek is possible, even when life is challenging?

Do you have excessive thoughts about specific things that lead to patterns of behaviour that are getting in your way? Have you had panic attacks or do you fear the physical and emotional sensations of anxiety itself? Has past trauma resulted in a cycle of fear, shame, intrusive memories and avoidance?

I was drawn to working with women in abusive relationships after two sexual assaults in my 20’s started me thinking about all the fear and trauma in women’s lives. Working in a battered women’s shelter, I realized many women are living under intolerable, often life-threatening conditions of control, threat and violence—and that it is the women, not their abusers, who are routinely judged and blamed, depicted as liars and mentally ill. I saw no pathology in the women coming to us for help. I saw bottomless grief. I saw terror, and shell shock, and women trying to protect their kids. I saw what can happen when women are not believed.

Is the inside of your head feeling like an uncomfortable place to be? Working with a mental health professional can create a meaningful shift. Sometimes the harsh things we say to ourselves and our unconscious patterns can leave us trapped in a cycle of just trying to survive the day. Could the way you've learned to cope/survive be keeping you stuck or moving you away from who you want to be and how you want to live? Learning to see yourself, your life, and your patterns clearly can create opportunities for healing, growth, and more meaningful relationships.

Accepting new clients! I believe that needing space to process life’s challenges is a part of the human condition. You make sense, and together we can navigate what is bringing you to therapy. In therapy I like to use laughter, curiosity, and genuine connection to build the therapeutic relationship. Together I hope our work brings about understanding and self compassion for the ways our adaptive bodies and brains function to protect and connect us.
