The decision to access counselling is a personal one. Whether you've been to a counsellor before, or you are just starting to explore the options, thank you. Not just for reading this - but for taking the time to look into what is available and what may be right for you. People generally come to therapy for a reason, such as a specific event that they would like to discuss, or to work through uncomfortable emotions. Together, we can prioritize goals, explore and work through issues, develop new coping strategies, and create a plan to determine next steps.

Existing in our current social, economic, and environmental climate is hard. Watching the news can be hard. Our day to day lives can be hard. It thus makes sense that we may feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, scared. Therapy can help. Therapy can be a place where you can feel connect, heard, and supported. A place to explore your thoughts and feelings. In my practice I offer a down to earth approach, loaded with empathy and support, while also offering a space to encourage movement and change.

During times of stress our experiences can seem confusing and overwhelming. Having a safe space to express our thoughts out loud helps bring clarity to our experience. Whether you are working through a current stressor or an older wound, identifying your thoughts and feelings helps you understand your unmet needs. I work with clients to identify longstanding automatic attachment patterns that may be maintaining beliefs and reactions that are no longer helpful and that are getting in the way of attaining fulfillment.

Pain is an inevitable part of life. But suffering does not have to be, and therapy can be a powerful tool to help. As an ally and guide in your mental health care, I offer a nonjudgmental space for you to show up just as you are and I show up as my authentic self, too. You will always be met with the unconditional care and acceptance you deserve. I believe in the inherent goodness and worth of each of us as human beings, and allow compassion and respect to drive my practice. During our time together, I will acknowledge and work with your strengths and resilience, while better understanding the patterns that no longer serve you.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
