Hi There! Life doesn't have to be full of grudges, anxiety, anger and grief all the time; or perhaps just passing by because of poor relationships and traumatic experiences that control us. I believe in our inner strength and am passionate about personal growth and healing. I think that we are all strong enough to move forward in our journey of healing, self-discovery and personal growth. I believe our first instinct as human beings is to seek contact and comforting connection.

I provide group counselling and support for Menopausal issues, Anxiety, low mood and Bereavement.
I provide a safe space where you will be heard and treated with compassion. I support individuals when life becomes overwhelming or uncertain. I can help you manage worry, anxiety, depression, and provide CPT treatment for PTSD. I also work with a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals who believe that connection and belonging can reduce isolation. This is why we also offer professionally facilitated therapeutic groups. We are currently planning our Fall offering of an ACT informed group for anxiety and depression and a support group for women experiencing any stage of menopause. Groups are cost effective and fun.

Through in-person or virtual therapy, I create a safe and compassionate space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a culturally safe and trauma-informed approach. I work with youth who describe an overwhelming combination of concerns related to feeling insecure in social settings (e.g., What people think of me?), alone, anxious, unable to cope with external demands, or thoughts about the past or the future. I work with adults who are experiencing general mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, as well as grief, post-traumatic stress disorder, or living/adjusting to major life changes (car/work accidents).

I support people through family and relationship conflicts and work to enhance coping strategies to manage challenges like anxiety, depression, anger, stress, perfectionism, low self-esteem, weight management, and dysfunctional parent-child relationships due to mental illness.
I feel it is essential to build a strong therapeutic relationship with each client right from the start to ensure a safe and comfortable space to share, heal and grow. I believe in the importance of working collaboratively with each person; establishing goals and working together to decide on a plan to achieve these goals. I like to facilitate the development of self-awareness and the ability to recognize the connections within different areas of our lives.

I continue to have passion for the work and thoroughly enjoy working with a variety of people such as adults revisiting historical trauma, those fighting addiction, families wrestling with eating disorders, and individuals living with depression, anxiety, and OCD.
As a trauma focused and trauma-trained therapist, I understand self-regulation, repair of attachment ruptures, understanding complex responses, returning to/or generating a quality of life, identifying true refuge, parts convalescence, and getting your feet back on the ground can be accomplished within the birthplace of safety, co-regulation, compassion, and actual understanding. Whether you require insight into why you may react or behave the way you do in certain situations or relationships, or wish to acquire skills, I’ll seek to create a healing relationship in which it is safe to do so.

You may also benefit from learning practical strategies for anxiety, stress and/or low mood.
Separation & divorce is not something you considered when you and your partner were planning your lives together. Unfortunately, divorce is common and is an incredibly painful process which you can't typically prepare for. It can generate intense emotions such as anger, confusion, betrayal, loneliness, and hopelessness. Even if you know it's the right decision, you will likely be experiencing grief over what you had hoped your relationship would be. Co-parenting is another level to manage. This process can make you question who you are, and what your life will look like moving forward.

I have expertise working with people of all ages struggling with ADHD, anxiety & depression.
Life can be fun & exciting, it can also be lonely, overwhelming, & stressful. Times like this, you're more likely to be hard on yourself, speak critically, not recognize your worth, or make poor decisions that hold you back from reaching your full potential. Therapy is a tool that helps you identify challenges & recognize the critical thoughts that keep you from living the life you deserve. I've worked in the field of mental health for 30 years. My primary focus has been working with children, youth, & parents. I've worked within many sectors including schools. I have an excellent understanding of systems & how to navigate them.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
