After years of experience, I am convinced that the most powerful tools for recovery are CBT, DBT (cognitive & dialectical behaviour therapy), EMDR and cardio-emotive feedback therapy... All are founded on the latest scientific findings on the neurobiology of attachment and "heart/brain" treatments. Along with time-tested healing traditions, together we can activate your innate instinct & privilege to become whole and connect meaningfully with others .

Something brought you here. Maybe you've tried coping strategies and found they only go so far. Maybe you're holding it together yet something deeper keeps pulling at you.
I work best with adults who have a reflective, curious stance toward their inner world — people who sense there's more to understand about themselves and are willing to explore it. At the same time, if you're in crisis, you are welcome here. I will hold you through it, stabilizing and supporting you, until the deeper work becomes possible.

Accepting new clients. You may be the person others rely on, the one who keeps going, handles the crisis and pushes through. Underneath, you may feel exhausted, disconnected or unsure of who you are outside the roles you've carried. Shé:kon, I am a Mohawk psychotherapist student intern from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. After more than a decade working in corrections, I understand the impact high-stress roles can have on the body and sense of self. I work with first responders, helpers, BIPOC and neurodivergent individuals navigating stress, burnout, trauma and life transitions.

Do you struggle with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, chronic pain, trauma, or OCD? Our emotional struggles can often accompany a disconnect between ourselves and others in our lives, and also between our minds and our emotions and bodies. When we do not feel whole we do not seem to be able to live fully and meaningfully within ourselves or in our relationships. Instead, we are met with painful emotional, cognitive, and physical symptoms that hold us back in life. You are not alone in this struggle. I can help you reconnect with yourself. I work with teens (14 years and older) and adults.

I primarily use an exploratory, collaborative, psychodynamic approach in therapy, drawing from core psychoanalytic concepts.
Feb. 10/26 - Currently accepting new clients. I work with adult women (often in the helping professions) who are experiencing burnout, stress, anxiety, exhaustion, unhappiness, and resentment, at work and in their personal relationships. If this is you, I can help you to process the realities of your situation, understand what unconscious patterns might be playing a role, and develop a more grounded and peaceful way of being. My approach is exploratory and collaborative, as together we work to understand your issues of concern, see alternative perspectives, and find effective responses that can begin to shift your life situation.

At certain times in their lives, people experience problems that are too difficult to handle alone. When their usual modes of coping no longer work for them, they feel overwhelmed and may want to learn new ways of coping through psychotherapy. Even though ways of responding based on past experiences may no longer be helpful, people tend to repeat old patterns of behaving, thinking and feeling. In psychotherapy I can assist you to understand these "habits", to see alternatives and to change.

Namaste! I provide individual, relationship and marriage counselling, in a nonjudgmental, relaxed environment. Over the last 35 years I have worked with individuals and couples guiding, teaching and helping them by using an eclectic approach, and a variety of different types of modalities depending on the particular needs of my clients. I also provide family mediation and relationship counselling for couples who have split. I am a sex therapist, working with all couples and individuals. I specialize in many areas, as I believe all issues are connected, so to treat problems in isolation is unrealistic and can be short lived.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
