Are you struggling with grief and loss, sadness and depression, anxiety and frustration, or just the stress of everyday life? Loss is more than just losing a loved one. We have lost so much of what we knew as “normal” in recent years. Grief and loss are expected realities of life but you do not need to go through it alone. Connecting with the right therapist can be the first step in addressing your concerns and making a change. My intention is to just be human with you as we work together. I would be honoured to hear your story and support you in creating the rich and meaningful life that you deserve.

I specialize in counselling with a focus on grief and loss, relationships issues, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
Life often presents itself as a series of changes. Some of these changes lift us up, and some challenge us. If you are feeling unsettled by stresses in your life, wondering how to achieve more balance, meaning and purpose, counselling may help.

Let me provide you with the tools to deal with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, adjustment to illness, loss, grief, and relationship issues.
We all assume so many important roles in our lives, we often lose sight of who we are as people. This can be especially true in times of change like marriage, the birth of a child, illness, children moving out of the home or back in, divorce, difficulties at work or at home, and a death of a love one. Often we end up feeling lost, anxious, and unsure of what we want or even who we are. I believe we all have the strength to find our answers and sometimes just need a guide to find the way more easily. I specialize in depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and workplace stress using science-based strategies that get results.

Chris is a therapist who understands life and human existence can be difficult, lonely, stressful, and sometimes even helpless and hopeless. Chris is concerned about existential questions that everyone must face, human existence, the meaning of life, dying and death etc. In his view, to help clients contemplate those questions would shed light on the client’s deeper understanding/feelings about their lives, empowering them, and helping them get out of the existential trap they are in now.

Therapy can help you navigate non-traditional relationships like non-monogamy/polyamory, or to better understand your sexuality, or a significant loss.
Are you struggling with your relationships, whether that be with your partner(s) or kids? Are you trying to get clear on who you are now, not who you used to be? As a therapist who is trained relationally, I work with individuals, couples and families. I strive to create a nurturing space where we can unpack your thoughts and feelings and look for patterns and narratives that may be holding you back. My approach is gentle and non-confrontational. I ask thought-provoking questions to help you explore different perspectives of your experiences. I want you to feel relief and to feel more connected to yourself and your loved ones.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
