With 14 years experience in the field of children,
teen
, and family mental health I have supported many clients ranging from 0-18 years old.
No Waitlist! Hi, My name is Lisa and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario. I am currently finishing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University. I believe everyone can benefit from talking to another about life’s triumphs and challenges. Therapy can be a wonderful option for all, no matter the level of need. Whether it is to maintain a semblance of normality, control, and comfort in one’s life or to work through some of our most difficult experiences. I believe in the importance of early childhood development, and helping families develop positive, supportive relationships.

In addition to working with ADHD, anxiety/stress and depression, I have a keen interest in supporting clients who are dealing with "Imposter Syndrome", multicultural issues, LGBTQIA+, transgenerational/racial trauma and youth/
teen
issues.
IN-PERSON appts & NO-WAIT lists- ADHD, Stress/Anxiety, Self-Esteem, LGBTQ+. You have a hard time "turning off" your racing mind and are feeling stressed. It might be hard for you to focus and you find yourself struggling to get things done. Perhaps you are struggling with procrastination, low motivation, or feeling in a "funk" because life is just too much sometimes. When you are stressed and overwhelmed, it can be hard to feel good about yourself and make the changes you'd like to see. If you are ready to work on yourself and start feeling better, you have come to the right place! You deserve to start feeling like YOU again.

I am a registered social worker with over 15 years of work experience. I have helped people who experience issues such as: depression, anxiety, addiction, abuse, trauma, anger, LGBTQ-related issues, relationship issues, grief, and family conflict. My journey into social work began at age 14, when I lost my father to cancer. Because there were few supports available at the time, I felt alone and stuck. This prompted me to dedicate my life to assisting others during difficult times, and help them realize they are not alone.

Teen Counsellors
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
