You don’t have to hold it all together on your own. I work with clients who are ready to slow down, make sense of their inner world, and find new ways of relating, to themselves and to others. My approach is warm, collaborative, and deeply rooted in attachment-based, trauma-informed care. Together, we’ll gently explore the patterns often shaped by past relationships that may be keeping you feeling stuck, anxious, or disconnected.

Looking for a therapist who gets it? One who really wants to have a good understanding of you, and why you are choosing to come to therapy now? With over 20 years of experience working with people just like you, I am a therapist who will listen with genuine curiosity, and work with you to uncover your own internal wisdom. Together, we will learn more about your strengths, unique perspective and values. It can be helpful to remember how these have evolved, even with life’s challenges related to stress, trauma, loss and oppression because of race, culture, spirituality, gender expression and sexuality.

Hi there! I'm Courtney, and I work with children and their parents, youth, and adults. Sometimes when you feel overwhelmed, it’s hard to know where to start. You may feel stressed out about your situation, but uncertain about what to do. Maybe you've tried therapy before, or you are intimidated to start. Or perhaps it's your child or teen who you are concerned about. Trying to do it all alone and without support is hard, but reaching out for help isn't easy.

Maybe you’re seeking a change, but want support figuring out what that is. I’m here to offer a warm place to explore and get that clarity. I see therapy quite simply, as a conversation – likely one you don’t get anywhere else. Therapy allows you to more freely tell your story, and determine the parts that may or may not be working for you right now. Even when you feel stuck, you hold wisdom about your life. I see my role as accompanying you in understanding what you want and identifying opportunities for change. Holding greater awareness about what’s going on can be empowering in shifting your thoughts, actions, and relationships.

I draw from emotionally focused therapy, IFS, CBT, and narrative approaches to help you understand what's driving your patterns and start shifting them.
Accepting New Clients. Does your relationship feel more like distance than closeness lately? Maybe you and your partner keep having the same argument, or intimacy has quietly faded and neither of you knows how to bring it back. Sex might feel like pressure, obligation, or something you avoid altogether because it brings up anxiety, body image worries, or old hurt. Outside the relationship, you might be navigating the emotional weight of pregnancy, new parenthood, or just feeling like you've lost yourself somewhere along the way. Taking that first step into therapy can feel vulnerable. You don't have to figure this out alone.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
