A compassionate, holistic psychotherapist offering space, understanding and tools for healing to those experiencing the effects of trauma, relationship patterns, loss, grief and various life challenges and pain. My journey began over 20 years ago counselling street-involved youth, supporting those with acquired brain injury, to specializing in therapy with those on their recovery journey from addiction and concurrent mental health to wellness. That lead me to understanding trauma and learning how we can heal on a mental, emotional, energetic, spiritual and physical level. I am here to support you on your unique healing journey.

Have you ever felt alone, disconnected or abandoned? I’ve had those moments too. Growing up amidst parental mental illness came with a lot of challenges but it also gave me compassion and understanding. We needed the support of a caring community of family and friends to help us walk through many difficult times. My lived experiences inspired me to study psychology and human behavior for much of my adult life. This pursuit has provided me with the opportunity to help others so they can feel supported on their journey.

Sometimes, the things that have happened in our past can affect our daily lives significantly. Trauma can make people feel as if their past defines who they are and that it will always have a grip on them. Although traumatic events can cause lasting effects, there are ways to regain control over your life if you have experienced trauma or developed PTSD. As an EMDR clinician, I use an evidence-based approach to help you become 'unstuck'. Seeking trauma therapy requires immense courage. I understand how difficult it can be to discuss trauma, which is why I provide a calm, non-judgemental space for you to begin the healing process.

Anxiety, ADHD, BPD & Life Changes- You're having a hard time concentrating and getting things done. You struggle to find motivation to complete your daily tasks and then feel down about yourself. You struggle with shifting moods and don't know how to cope. When anxiety and overwhelm take over, it can be hard to function because your concentration and motivation start to slip. And, if you struggle with low mood and negative self-talk, it can be hard to get out of that "funk" and shift to a more productive mindset. If you're ready to make some changes towards achieving your goals and feeling better, you've come to the right place!

I work with clients who are finding their true identity and ready to release any aspect of themselves and their story that no longer serve them. This includes clients that have unresolved experiences from their recent or distant past that would like professional guidance in processing such from a trauma-informed and empathic lens. Clients that are ready for change and able to dedicate their energy to their own healing, in and out of session, with my support. Clients that may feel stuck, low-mood, unmotivated or confused in how to progress in life but are feeling called to evolve into a fulfilled & grateful version of themselves.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Counsellors

When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.

What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilisation, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counselling.

How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?

The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.

What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?

If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
