Grief
happens when we experience any significant
loss
or change - leaving an irreparable void in our lives. It is an incredibly unique, yet completely shared experience that has the power to connect us all. From
death
to divorce, life after
loss
feels chaotic and strange; everything has changed & it can be hard to find your feet again. Know that
grief
doesn't wait either... navigating the
grief
of losing someone to illness or injury is not something you should have to do alone. No matter the cause, children & youth will benefit from a safe space to work with their
grief
& learn how to live a healthier life with it by their side.

I provide individual therapy (including children 7+) for difficult life transitions, divorce/separation,
grief

loss
, anger and stress management, anxiety, depression, trauma, and low self-esteem.
I have always had a passion for helping others. With previous work experience in different environments, I have been exposed to the complexities of life, which has developed my belief that change, growth and healing is possible if individuals are supported with compassion, empathy, and non-judgement. If you have suffered from the debilitating impacts and effects of trauma and have experienced deep
loss
, you will need someone to take time to talk with you and walk with you through your
grief
.
Here’s what I do to help. I integrate key therapeutic principles drawing on a wide range of psychodynamic, cognitive behavior and dialectical behavior modalities, in which I invite you to sit down with me in a relaxed, safe, informal way, and talk. If you've never been in psychotherapy, it can be hard to believe that "just talking" can be helpful. But if you’re depressed, anxious and feeling bad about yourself, you can be profoundly helped by an in-depth conversation in which you come to create greater self-understanding, discover insights and meanings, recognize patterns, and explore options and skills.

I have a special interest in working with women who have experienced
loss
, abuse or trauma, relational difficulties, anxiety or spiritual crisis as well as those in life transitions.
Good conversations don't happen by chance. The best ones make you feel heard, valued and understood. I'm passionate about having those kinds of conversations to help you process your thoughts and emotions, gain perspective and resolve hurts. With over 20 years of past experience both in Christian ministry and journalism, I value the stories people share about their lives to help them to understand, interpret and find meaning from their experiences. I will give you a safe space that brings hope and clarity, so you can reduce stress, resolve conflict, make decisions or recover from
loss
and trauma.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
