My goal is to work collaboratively with individuals using evidence-based modalities to help provide a clear solution for every child,
family
or individual.
We often feel like we would like to change things in our lives, be a better parent or spouse or learn how to cope better with the way we manage stress. Having a deeper understanding of mental health and how it affects our mind and body can allow us to work towards healthier solutions to improve our lives.

I see people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, addictions, adjustment to change in their lives, relationship or
family
conflict, or the residual pain left from difficult childhoods or painful life events. My way of working as a therapist is to get to know you: your hopes, your talents, your problems and your unique way of thinking and expressing yourself. We then proceed with treatment based on who you are and what you need. The aim is to allow coping with your weaknesses to help you uncover your strengths, and your way forward.

Recovery from OCD is a team endeavour, and we can't wait to help your
family
.
You're noticing changes in your child's behaviour; it doesn't make sense. They're acting strange, out of their character. Why does my child seem afraid; anxious? It seems like you've tried everything to help them feel better, but nothing seems to work and you're confused, fighting the feeling of helplessness. You find yourself walking on eggshells for fear of making the behaviour worse, because you don't understand what's happening.

My life has been a roller coaster of ups and downs that included:
family
dysfunction, divorce, radical career changes, unexpected deaths, a loved one's self harm struggles, and body image challenges.
Does it feel like you're floundering in a place you don't recognize? Do you feel alone? Are you dealing with issues that you never imagined you would be dealing with? Are you new to Canada or a newly posted military
family
member? Life often doesn't play out the way we expect and those whammies can throw us off course in a split second. Reaching out for support is the first step to getting back on track.

Have you ever felt alone, disconnected or abandoned? I’ve had those moments too. Growing up amidst parental mental illness came with a lot of challenges but it also gave me compassion and understanding. We needed the support of a caring community of
family
and friends to help us walk through many difficult times. My lived experiences inspired me to study psychology and human behavior for much of my adult life. This pursuit has provided me with the opportunity to help others so they can feel supported on their journey.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
