I use a combination of techniques drawing from training in addictions treatment, CBT, EMDR , and holistic therapies to create a plan that is specific to you.
Have you ever felt the need to hide your true self? Most people experience challenges; we just don’t talk about it or want others to see our struggles. Feelings of shame and fear keep us disconnected from others and isolated with our thoughts and emotions. I’ve been there many times myself. As a child, I was shy and faced health challenges. With the support of loved ones, professionals and mentors in my life I was able to overcome many of my challenges. I now use my skills and education to help others who might be experiencing similar concerns.

Sometimes, the things that have happened in our past can affect our daily lives significantly. Trauma can make people feel as if their past defines who they are and that it will always have a grip on them. Although traumatic events can cause lasting effects, there are ways to regain control over your life if you have experienced trauma or developed PTSD. As an EMDR clinician, I use an evidence-based approach to help you become 'unstuck'. Seeking trauma therapy requires immense courage. I understand how difficult it can be to discuss trauma, which is why I provide a calm, non-judgemental space for you to begin the healing process.

I have also been trained in EMDR and Cognitive Processing Therapy to address traumatic events.
When people of any age go through stressors and trauma, it is common to feel like life is falling apart. In my own life journey I have experienced traumas, serious illnesses, and deaths of people closest to me. I know what it is to feel depressed and alone. I know what it’s like to grieve and feel like no one understands. My passion is to help people navigate through trauma and difficult situations, and feel a sense of peace and healing. Everyone’s journey is different and unique, so there is not a cookie cutter approach that’s right for every individual.

Without a doubt, my clients have experienced the transformative benefits of EMDR and IFS.
Welcome! As a therapist, I have the privilege of accompanying clients along their uniquely personal therapy journeys. My passion lies in providing a safe and judgement-free space for traditional counselling, and trauma processing via EMDR , IFS and DBR. The origin of unprocessed trauma isn't always immediately clear, yet it changes how we view ourselves and the world around us. It can keep us in old conditioning and unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving while also limiting our ability to truly experience and embrace the present moment...where clarity, joy, and love of new experiences and relationships happen.

I have recently joined forces with Psychology Matters as Director of EMDR Therapy and Business Operations. This position allows me to continue to focus on the trauma therapy work for which I have a great passion, as well as collaborating with the Psychology Matters team to meet the greater needs of our community. Having worked in this field for 17 years I've gained a deep appreciation for the influence of our early development on our present ability to cope. With this and the framework of EMDR I am witnessing amazing growth in the people that I am working with.

Using Mindfulness, EMDR , CBT, Narrative, and Systemic Family Therapy and others, my hope is I can support you to find your whole self.
I would like to acknowledge and honour your consideration to reach out for support. It is not always easy and can feel vulnerable. As Maya Angelou said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” You are the expert of your life, however most of us need extra support to cope with the challenges that can arise in our daily lives. In today’s climate you may be feeling exhausted and access to the usual resources may be limited. This can be a lonely feeling and may be described as trauma – anything that you lack the resources to get through.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
