Racing heart, shaking hands, breathlessness, and an urgent sense of imminent danger are some of the signs of anxiety. Some people have heart palpitations or flutters, prickling sensations, choking sensations, dizziness or nausea. It's important to rule out medical factors, but if a doctor has told you that your symptoms are being caused by stress or anxiety, know that this is a highly treatable condition and it doesn't mean you're weak or crazy. In fact, feeling like you're losing your mind and having difficulty focusing are features of extreme anxiety! We can address this.

It is also often a significant contributing factor of anxiety, depression, PTSD,
relationship
issues, and more.
Welcome! As a therapist, I have the privilege of accompanying clients along their uniquely personal therapy journeys. My passion, training, and specialty lies in providing a safe and judgement-free space for traditional counselling, and trauma processing via EMDR and IFS. The origin of unprocessed trauma isn't always immediately clear, yet it changes how we feel about ourselves and the world around us. It can keep us in old and unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving while also limiting our ability to truly experience and embrace the present moment...where joy and love of new experiences and relationships happen.

Productive psychotherapy occurs within the context of a positive therapeutic
relationship
between the therapist and client, so often times the first one or two sessions are focused on a consultation to review the client’s concerns and for us to see if we are a good fit to work together. During this time, I will make recommendations for a treatment plan and will ask for the client’s feedback.

I offer a safe, non-judgemental, client centered therapeutic space for individuals and
couples
. I believe that a journey towards healing requires empathy, encouragement and supportive facilitation as we often haven't had the opportunity to learn ways to cope with traumatic experiences and life related stressors. This can result in dysregulation and feelings of anxiety, depression and overwhelm in our day to day lives and relationships. Let's work together to explore and address your concerns in an open minded, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, sex/body positive, LGBTQ+ inclusive space.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
