Most of the people who reach out to me are capable adults who usually manage life well — but everyone hits a point now and then when a fresh perspective makes all the difference. Maybe stress has been building, a relationship feels confusing, parenting is overwhelming, or anxiety is louder than usual. If you’d like to talk things through with someone who respects your lived experience and shows up in a real, genuine way, I’m here. I offer both therapy and collaborative consultation. I’m conversational, engaged, and practical — clients often tell me they appreciate that I don’t just nod quietly. I listen closely, ask good questions,

Anxiety can take over your days and nights, leaving you restless, overwhelmed, shut down, or doubting your worth. After betrayal, childhood trauma, or painful relationships, it can feel like the same patterns keep returning. You may find yourself people-pleasing, walking on eggshells, blaming yourself, or pulling away. At Liberated Mind Therapy in Barrie, I offer trauma-informed therapy for individuals and couples. My approach is compassionate and evidence-based, drawing from IFS, CBT, EFT, and the Gottman Method. We move at your pace towards what you want, whether that's happier days, calmer emotions, or closer relationships.

For many, counselling can feel intimidating—sitting across from someone you don’t know, unsure of what to expect, and uncertain about opening up. I understand. That was me when I first met with a therapist years ago. What I discovered, though, is that counselling is really just a conversation—two people working together toward a shared goal. As a therapist, I desire to create a safe space for that conversation. A place where your thoughts and emotions are heard, your story is understood, and where together we can walk the path toward mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.

You're fed up and frustrated. No matter how hard you try you feel like you're just not good enough. You may find yourself saying “yes” when you want to say “no,” replaying interactions in your mind, or feeling like you’re constantly managing how others feel. You get angry quickly, can't control your emotions and have been called "oversensitive." You care a lot about other people, you try your best all the time, but you are left feeling overwhelmed, alone, and exhausted. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone and these patterns are more common than you might think.

I draw from narrative, attachment-based, emotionally focused, CBT, and solution-focused approaches, but there's no rigid formula here.
Sometimes one big thing finally tips the scale. Other times you can’t point to anything at all—just a quiet accumulation of work, relationships, responsibilities, patterns, or a version of yourself you’ve outgrown. My clients are often thoughtful, caring people who are carrying more than anyone realizes. They may feel stuck in familiar patterns, disconnected in their relationships, exhausted from always being the strong one, or quietly wondering if life is supposed to feel this hard. Therapy is where we slow down, make sense of what’s happening, and figure it out together.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
