Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists in Bancroft, ON
My practice draws from CBT and DBT for practical coping skills, while remaining flexible to incorporate trauma-informed pacing and existential exploration as needed.
My passion is supporting individuals who have felt overlooked by systems that weren't built with them in mind. You might be someone living with a disability, navigating chronic illness, or exploring a neurodivergent identity while in school or even later in life. Maybe you're a caregiver balancing someone else's needs with your own. Or perhaps you're simply in a life transition, a career shift, a diagnosis, a loss, and you need a space to process it without having to explain your whole world first. Progress is measured by what feels meaningful to you.

My clients are people who want more than a sounding board - they want a therapist who helps them work through the mess, turn confusion into clarity and struggle into growth. I use a combination of EMDR, CBT, IFS (Internal Family Systems), the Trauma Triphasic Model, and DBT to help you heal and grow.
Many of my clients are pregnant or postpartum and wondering why this season feels heavier than expected. They may understand their patterns logically, yet feel emotionally reactive, anxious, or disconnected. Often, past trauma or attachment wounds resurface during pregnancy or early parenthood. I help individuals and couples gently process these experiences using EMDR and trauma-focused therapy, so they can move from overwhelm and survival toward steadiness, clarity, and deeper connection.

You’re self-aware, but something still isn’t changing. You’ve thought about your patterns, maybe even talked about them, but you keep finding yourself in the same place. Overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from the life you want. You can see what’s happening. You see your reactions, your habits, and the ways you might be getting in your own way. But insight alone hasn’t led to meaningful change, and that can feel frustrating. Or maybe things are okay on the surface, but you know they could be better. More intentional, more aligned, more reflective of who you actually want to be.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
