Are you concerned about your child's emotional wellbeing or behaviour? Does your child struggle with nightmares, being away from you, overwhelming fear, or does not enjoy the unknowns? Maybe your child has a history of high levels of frustration or anger? Does your child struggle with peer connections, history of bullying, or low self-confidence? Are you worried about how to navigate these challenges as a family and how they impact your child? As a parent/caregiver it can be challenging to deal with these problems alone and all the emotions that come along with them.

What has been on your mind? Anything tripping you up in your relationship with self, others or God? Do you need to a place to talk through the challenges of life or articulate your racing thoughts, overwhelming emotions or confusing behaviours? Being stuck in life can be so frustrating. With no idea of what to do next, it makes everyday life a chore and no one seems to understand. Those closest to you want you to just get over it and move on, but you just can't. It seems that relationships become contentious or shallow and it's easy to lose sight of what really matters as there's barely enough energy to get through the day.

We are taking the counselling office outdoors into nature! We will meet and walk at our chosen path either in St. Thomas, Aylmer, Woodstock or Tillsonburg. A comfy bench or shady shelter can work if there are mobility considerations or the weather isn't cooperating . Symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, and anger are reduced when we spend time out in nature. Walk and Talk Ecotherapy is also effective in the treatment of grief, life transitions, insomnia, coping with trauma and managing difficult relationships. Spending time in nature in the presence of an experienced therapist will help you reach your goals.

Are you at a point where you’ve done all the right things, therapy, self-help books, mindfulness, perhaps years of personal growth, yet something still feels unsettled inside? You’re self-aware, compassionate, and insightful, but your nervous system remains on alert, your body carries tension, and your mind keeps looping old stories that no longer align with where you're heading. Maybe you sense a deeper calling for change, though the next step feels uncertain. People that walk into session often leave saying "I feel like I found a missing part of myself, I feel lighter, something clicked for me"

In my experience, the first step toward healing and self-discovery often begins with simply reaching out for support—which can also be the most difficult. While we can’t erase life’s challenges, therapy offers a space to uncover your inner strength and move forward on a path toward healing and growth. Here, you'll find a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where your story will be heard with empathy and respect. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I specialize in working with individuals navigating challenges related to sports performance, ADHD, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, sex therapy, and trauma.

You're feeling lost and overwhelmed. You're struggling with a loss or major life transition. Lately, you are feeling that you deserve better. You've forgotten what your interests and passions are, or who you are, while you’ve been busy just surviving. I am a firm believer that positive self-worth and learning how to effectively cope with the messes life throws at you will help you become a calmer, more confident version of yourself. Everyone is capable of change, and while suffering may be inevitable, it does not have to define or overpower you. Therapy should be a journey forward, towards building a life that you envision.

Am I losing my mind or is this real? If this thought keeps you up at night, if you doubt your own perception or feel like whatever you do is wrong—that's not a personal failure. What you're experiencing has a name, a pattern, and a logic. Here, you can name what's happening out loud without questioning if you're exaggerating. We'll make sense of it together. I work with narcissistic abuse and complex trauma because generic advice "just set boundaries" won't solve your situation. This is where gaslighting confusion gets deactivated, you regain trust in what you see, and you get to choose from clarity, even when chaos is still there.

You’re exhausted. From waiting. Overthinking. From pretending you're okay. Carrying more than you let anyone see. Smiling on the outside while inside you hold anxiety, heartbreak, and questions that don’t have clear answers or direction. Uncertainty can leave you feeling isolated and unsure of what comes next. Some days it feels like no matter how much hope you gather, you’re stuck in the same cycle, longing, loss, and disappointment that never fully gets the chance to heal. The pressure to keep going, to stay positive, to hold it all together through appointments, conversations, and everyday life can be overwhelming.

At different points in life, many of us seek greater insight and space to reflect on our emotions, relationships, and sense of identity. It’s common to feel caught in uncomfortable patterns, navigate disconnection, experience anxiety and stress, or long for growth and healing as life changes and unfolds. For many, this search is about being met with understanding, care, curiosity, and thoughtful support in a space where experiences can be explored and held without judgment. I aim to offer a safe and supportive space where experiences are normalized, insight can deepen, and understanding can grow at your own pace.

Life can be challenging, especially when you are becoming an adult. Your beliefs may not match with those of your family or friends -- that can be frustrating. You may be questioning where your life leads. Sometimes, crap happens and we eventually need to deal with it. Counselling is an option that can help you understand yourself and others around you. Think of it as hanging out with someone who's going to encourage you to be you.

You may understand why you struggle and have gained valuable insight through therapy, yet still find yourself caught in the same patterns. You overthink conversations, question your worth, people-please, struggle to set boundaries, or feel responsible for other people's emotions. You may find yourself emotionally eating, shutting down, becoming reactive in relationships, or feeling anxious even when there is no obvious reason why. Thoughts may loop, sleep may be disrupted, and you may feel stuck between understanding yourself and actually feeling different.

How can I find a therapist in Aylmer?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postal code, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postal code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
