My passion is to help people regain their inner peace and happiness to live a pleasurable fulfilled life. Life is full of ups, downs and challenges that we are often not prepared for. It does not matter how many times you get knocked down, but the what matters comes from how many times you get up. I believe the greatest accomplishment is who you become while picking yourself back up. Each new day gives you a fresh start to get back on track and to have the courage to rebuild yourself the way you desire. In therapy we would work collaboratively to address your needs and to determine how best to meet these needs.

I believe that every person has a desire to be their best self and live their best life. However there are times in life when you may be met with challenges, struggles or perhaps a personal crisis. Perhaps you feel you are struggling to cope. I believe in every person’s ability to heal, grow and recover. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, where we can work together to build insight, self awareness and skills.

Sometimes life can be difficult and these challenges can cause a sense of suffering in ourselves and those we care about. It can all feel overwhelming and exhausting, making it difficult to know what to do or where to turn for help. It takes courage to reach out for support so that you don’t have to suffer alone. Counselling can provide the opportunity to learn to share and process one’s struggles in a safe and non-judgemental space. Learning how to foster self-directed kindness and self-compassion can help nurture an individual’s personal growth and resilience.

Living with chronic illness, ADHD, or autism can feel like moving through a world that wasn’t built with your needs in mind. The pressure to mask, push through, or repeatedly explain yourself can lead to immense grief, anxiety, depression, burnout, loneliness, and a deep sense of feeling unseen and misunderstood.
As a neurodivergent therapist with lived experience of chronic pain, and a parent to neurodivergent children, I understand the emotional and physical toll daily life can take. This is why I offer a therapeutic space where you can show up exactly as you are, without judgment or pressure to perform.

Many of us come to periods in our lives when we feel overwhelmed, confused or immobilized by our circumstances and our feelings. Or we reach a point in life when we know in our gut that something has to change, but we just don’t know where to begin. Doubt and negative self-talk can make us feel stuck. Sometimes we struggle with feelings of sadness, anger, shame or anxiety and can feel very alone in that struggle. Having a safe place to talk and a safe, non-judgmental person to talk to is key to healing and moving beyond the “stuck place”.

I know that you’re really good at surviving. You’ve gotten this far after all. But the things that you’ve had to do to survive - people pleasing, overthinking, overworking, overextending, hypervigilence, masking - are taking a toll. You’re anxious, exhausted, and filled with self doubt. And drinking/eating/ scrolling too much to cope. Or constantly running to attain what you think you’re supposed to chase after. And none of it is working. You may have even been to therapy before, and you've talked about your issues but you don't really feel like you've healed your issues. You feel stuck and don't know where to turn to for help.

Are you tired of feeling controlled by negative thoughts and emotions? Do you struggle with addiction or self-destructive behaviours? Did you experience a difficult childhood or trauma(s) in life? If so, you are not alone. Studies show you are more likely to develop addiction due to childhood trauma's impact on brain development- particularly in the regions related to emotional regulation, impulse control, and reward processing. Trauma can lead to ADHD, PTSD, and maladaptive coping mechanisms- such as substance use to manage emotions and memories. This is survival mode, not dysfunction. No one wants to feel pain, and there is help.

During times of stress, we are all pulled to find ways to cope. Sometimes these coping strategies pull us in a positive direction. Other times, they keep us feeling stuck or hopeless things will ever change. I support my clients to build awareness, understanding, a sense of self-worth and most importantly, confidence, while mastering the skills necessary to move forward in their lives.

Alcohol Use Counsellors
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
