Psychodynamic Therapists in Ajax, ON
I draw from Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Psychodynamic principles, but most importantly is that therapy feels personal and human.
My approach to therapy is warm, non-judgmental, and deeply collaborative. I want clients to feel like they can show up exactly as they are; messy, curious, unsure, hopeful, or anything in between. I work from a trauma-informed lens and believe healing happens when people feel safe, understood, and supported rather than analyzed or “fixed”.

You are used to pushing through. But lately you are feeling drained, disconnected and overwhelmed. The passion that once drove you feels distant. Exhaustion isn’t weakness, it’s a signal. And it’s time to listen. Come as you are. This is a space to lighten your load, lay your burdens down and begin building a life that feels aligned, energized, and authentically yours.
Today, women are grappling with various challenges, including stress, depression, anxiety, a sense of loss of identity. However, I firmly believe that individuals possess the power to undergo transformative journeys and evolve into their best selves.

Do you find yourself caught in cycles you can't seem to break? Replaying conversations, stuck in patterns, questioning your worth, or feeling like you're carrying more than you should? Maybe anxiety has become your baseline, or you're navigating grief, trauma, substance use, or relationships that keep hitting the same walls. You deserve more than just getting by.
As someone with a Pakistani immigrant background, I know firsthand how culture, identity, and the pressure to adapt can quietly shape the way you see yourself, relate to others, and move through the world. That stuff matters, and it deserves space in the room.

When emotions run high, self harm enters the picture, or low mood becomes a constant companion, the quiet conclusion can become that something is fundamentally wrong with who you are. Working mainly with teens and young adults, I meet that belief with gentleness and curiosity, and walk alongside people as they find their way from self criticism and uncertainty toward a real sense of kindness for themselves. That movement takes time, which is why I invest care in making sessions feel safe, honest, and free of judgment, a place where sitting with what is hard is not only allowed but welcome.

I draw from several therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic therapy, EFT, and CBT.
My ideal clients are high-functioning individuals and couples who appear to be managing on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected internally. They may be navigating burnout, chronic stress, depression, or life transitions such as fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, or parenthood. Many also feel stuck in relationship patterns like miscommunication or emotional distance. They are not looking for quick fixes, but for deeper understanding and lasting change in how they feel within themselves and connect with others.

Yuansheng Lu - Ajax EMDR Trauma & OCD Therapist

I am an Ajax trauma and OCD therapist who uses EMDR, ACT, and ERP. My clients come to me feeling exhausted by their own minds. Sometimes they can’t stop thinking about something scary or difficult that happened to them in the past. They replay scenarios and feel on edge or easily frightened or angry. Maybe you've spent years fighting intrusive thoughts, getting pulled into rituals that take up more time than you'd like to admit, or running on a background hum of worry that never really quiets. I understand this dynamic well, and I find it genuinely meaningful work to help people shift it.

I often integrate psychodynamic, somatic and relational/attachment-based approaches in my work with clients .
Therapy is a revolving door that you can walk through at different times in your life and for different reasons. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and alone, finding relationships difficult, carrying feelings of anger, anxiety or sadness and/or have experienced trauma in your life, then you don’t have to go through it on your own. I believe that all suffering has a story. That new paths toward change begin to unfold, when we come to understand the patterns in our lives and how they shape us.

Momna Sajid - Ajax Trauma, Kids & Relationships
Registered Psychotherapist, RP(Q)

I'm Momna. I work with children, teens, couples and families, in English and Urdu, and much of my work is with South Asian women and families living between two cultures, where what you owe your family and what you want for yourself pull in opposite directions. Before I became a psychotherapist I spent five years doing ABA with autistic kids, so autism, ADHD and big behaviour don't rattle me. I also have experience in crisis centres and working with people who've experience violence, making me a specialist in working with trauma. And with couples, I'll help you say the hard thing in a way your partner can hear.

You carry the psychological burden of responsibility. Others see you as capable, dependable, and strong, but beneath that strength you may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, disconnected, or burned out. I help professionals, leaders, healthcare workers, therapists, educators, justice professionals, caregivers, and other high-functioning adults understand the patterns that keep them carrying too much, develop healthier boundaries, reconnect with themselves, and create a more balanced, meaningful, and fulfilling life.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
