It can be hard to find a Black psychologist who truly understands your experiences and how they shape the way you learn, think, and cope. You’ve worked hard to push through, but you still feel something isn’t adding up. I provide psychoeducational and psychological assessments to help clarify why you are struggling academically, behaviourally, or emotionally. My work is culturally responsive, helping clients gain insight, access support, and feel seen... not just evaluated.

Do you or your child struggle with constant worry, overthinking, or feeling “not good enough”? Maybe your teen is dealing with low self-esteem, comparing themselves to others, or feeling pressure to fit in. Or as an adult, you may find yourself people-pleasing, second-guessing your decisions, or staying in relationships that leave you feeling emotionally drained. These patterns can feel exhausting—but they are not permanent. I work with children, youth, and adults who experience social anxiety that shows up as overthinking, fear of making mistakes, difficulty saying no, and carrying the emotional weight of those around them.

You feel mentally drained all the time. Nothing seems to go your way. You’re constantly fighting yourself just to get things done, while your family gets in the way, believing things should only be done a certain way. You overanalyze every decision, feeling stuck, and at times you wonder, what’s the point of even trying? Imagine waking up feeling lighter. More sure of who you are, less tangled in self-doubt. Decisions don’t feel like a battle, and there’s space to breathe, to grow, to just be. Feeling connected to yourself, your choices, your life, without constantly questioning everything.

Hi, I’m Paul. I’m a seasoned psychotherapist and have been helping individuals overcome addiction and out-of-control behaviours since 2003. In 2014, I became a Certified Sex Recovery Therapist through the American Association of Sex Addiction Therapists, which has given me the tools and expertise to support men struggling with sexual addiction and other destructive habits. With a compassionate yet focused approach, I work closely with men navigating the consequences of affairs, guiding them through the personal healing that needs to happen before they can move forward with marriage therapy.

You may be carrying trauma, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, perimenopause changes or parental stress while still trying to hold everything together. On the outside, you may appear fine, but inside feel disconnected, exhausted, or not yourself. Maybe grief, burnout, anger, shame, or relationship stress has left you stretched thin. Maybe becoming a mother stirred up old wounds. Therapy can help you understand what is happening beneath the surface and begin healing with more clarity and self-compassion.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?
When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?
It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?
Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?
Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
