I have experience working with various forms of trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, grief, and relationship and family issues.
I believe that therapy can be a safe space for healing and self-discovery. I feel very passionate about supporting people through this process and creating a therapeutic relationship where you can feel validated and supported. I practice with a trauma-informed lens and believe in the importance of nervous system regulation during sessions. Because of this, I often incorporate somatic interventions, as well as grounding exercises and resources. My approach is attachment and emotion-focused, anti-oppressive, and informed by feminist and queer theory.

My client focus is working with neurodivergent people with conditions such as ADHD, Autism and Learning Disabilities. Although these differences can be an asset in many situations, individuals may have difficulty navigating a world not necessarily designed for them. Feelings of depression, anxiety, anger, and low self esteem may linger from years of feeling misunderstood or being under-equipped in social, school or work settings. Exploring your strengths, obstacles and goals allow you to take charge of your mental health and work with your difference rather than against it.

Nothing can take the place of 30 years of hands-on practical experience in working full time as a therapist and providing Direct Neurofeedback treatments to help reset your nervous system. I can quickly and effectively get to the underlying root of your issue which helps to fast-track your therapy process. I can explain difficult concepts and draw out unproductive cycles of interactions in ways that are simple, clear, that help save you time and shift patterns quickly. Based on our initial session, I will tailor-make a treatment plan that fits your specific needs.

Do you feel distressed but don't understand why? Have you tried different methods and it only helped a little but never get ahead? Have you ever wondered what the core issue is? Working with me might find you those answers. A lot of people ask who gets counselling, I believe that anyone who experiences stress could get a therapist; however, many have amazing family and friends that allow them to bounce ideas, inspire motivation, and provides insight so counselling really isn't needed. Most people wait till they are in crisis to get help which would mean a rough journey to baseline. Let's be preventative rather than reactionary.

Moments of struggle are inevitable. However, when we are at a crossroads, we can begin seeing ourselves more clearly. My practice, Liminal Space Counselling, is founded on the idea that the space between two points in our lives is a chance to reflect and begin again. I also offer a group on Self Compassion.

I grew up in a culture where mental health was not given a priority and there was, and still is, a lot of stigma surrounding it. My passion for counselling came from wanting to give people a space to feel heard, understood and heal; to provide a space for safety, connection, appreciation, understanding and growth. I work with a wide range of populations and concerns, and welcome all who need a space to heal.

I work with children aged 7 and up, youth, and adults/parents. All persons and conversations are unique. Therefore the way I work mostly depends on what you might ask for help with. I always want treatment to be effective, so I aim to integrate a variety of evidence-based techniques into a plan that is uniquely suited to each client.

I provide a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings. By discussing your concerns with you, I can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, as well as identifying ways of finding your own solutions to problems. It can be a great relief to share your worries and fears with someone who acknowledges your feelings and is able to help you reach a positive solution.

We are a a trauma-informed team of Clinical Counsellors, Art Therapists and other health practitioners, experienced in working with teens, youth and adults braving a range of mental health challenges. We offer Individual, Relationship, Group and Online Counselling. We hold an affirming, inclusive, non-pathologizing, culturally-safe, humility-focused and harm-reduction lens in my practice. I hold a Narrative Therapy approach and often blend it with art therapy. W have found that this way, even the people with awkward hide-and-seek relationships with their mental health make consistent progress, despite the resistance.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
