Tired of fighting with life? Feeling drained of energy, demoralized and running out of options? Are you sabotaging yourself? Frustration and confusion can lead to hopelessness and fear. You can’t stay connected to the good life, others, or even yourself… This is a horrible place to be! But we don’t have to live here. What you need is someone with experience and skill to come alongside you, in acceptance, bringing clarity – illuminating reasons why this has been happening to you; all of which bring safety, hope, and direction to your life. I was once here, but now I’m not; now I have a roadmap to get you out of here…

Are you struggling to break your bad habits and keep healthy relationships? Maybe you're repeating unhelpful behaviors no matter how hard you try to change. Are you dealing with the consequences of impulsive decisions, losing control, or substance use? Often, these actions are the ways you learned to cope with the stresses of life to protect yourself or overcome challenges during difficult periods. When these coping mechanisms show up in life and relationships, they frequently contribute to conflict and pain. I help individual and couples better understand themselves and make lasting change with solo or marriage counselling.

Your concerns are unique to your own lived experiences and circumstances. I work to facilitate a greater understanding of the patterns in your life that contribute to feeling stuck. Many people desire to live "all in" in their lives, but fear, sadness and personal history stop them from doing so. In the therapeutic space I gently challenge individual adults and couples to learn to thrive in their relationships, develop stronger communication skills, break free of limiting patterns and live a life congruent with their values and dreams. I work hard to show up authentically and with warmth for every client.

Hair pulling and skin picking can be very challenging to manage independently - they are highly complex behaviours. Often these Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours (BFRBs) result in shame and guilt. They can be isolating and worrisome. You may feel alone, but you are not. I specialize in treating BFRBs. I also regularly work with clients who have anxiety, obsessions and compulsions (OCD), impulsivity, and individuals who lack confidence (work, studies, relationships). As a Clinical Psychologist (22 years), my approach will help you to experience positive change in the short-term, and learn how to sustain this change in the long-term.

It can be frustrating and confusing when life looks good on the outside but doesn’t feel good on the inside; feeling tired, overwhelmed and disconnected from the things you worked so hard to have. Therapy may seem like one more thing to do in an already busy life, but there is part of you that is curious about whether it could make a difference. As a Ph.D. level Clinical Psychologist, I have spent the past 10 years successfully treating adults with depression, anxiety, OCD, insomnia, perfectionism, life stress, and relationship difficulties.

We are confronted with change every day of our lives. Some occur due to circumstance, while other changes occur because of maturation. We may appreciate some of the ways we have changed and not others. Fortunately, humans can reflect upon their lives and circumstances to make intentional change thereby improving their life satisfaction. Every person, family, or couple comes with their own story. In therapy, we come to understand the underlying meaning of the story for each person and work together to create the necessary goals for change.

Do strong emotions and intense memories impact how you live? Sometimes the past seems to become the present, despite our best efforts. Traumatic experiences and chronic stress can create negative thoughts and feelings that can interfere with daily functioning and overall well-being. Coping mechanisms are often developed to manage these distressing experiences, although they may become ineffective or even harmful over time. Addiction (substance/behavioural), anxiety/depression, etc., and other concerns can arise as a result of unresolved trauma. New to therapy? Tried other types of therapy? Call today for a consult.

I am a Clinical Psychologist with a family-focused practice and over 15 years of experience. Children, youth, families, and parents/caregivers often see me when there are concerns about behavior, sleep, anxiety, emotion regulation, family and peer relationships, adjustment (e.g., parental separation, medical diagnosis), and disrupted attachment (e.g., foster care, adoption). Adults seek my services when they have concerns and goals related to relationships, coping, and adjustment. I have worked in diverse settings including children’s hospitals, school districts, a not-for-profit organization, and my private practice.

Working from a holistic approach, I specialize in women who were late-diagnosed with ADHD, have a history of trauma, and haven't found past therapy to be helpful. As a registered yoga teacher, I also incorporate aspects of that into sessions based on what my clients need session-to-session. That said, they often report that in the past, mindfulness hasn't worked for them, without realizing there are specific ways we can adapt it for ADHD. My clients tend to be recovering people pleasers & are easily overwhelmed. In therapy, they want to figure out who they are on a deeper level and feel more at home in their own skin.

You can't remember the last time you were able to relax. Your mind is constantly racing with judgmental and negative thoughts about yourself and your life. All you want is to feel happy, but you don't feel good enough. People who should have been safe have hurt you and let you down, leaving you scared to open up and trust. You find yourself crying at the drop of a hat for no explainable reason, which leads you to feel more isolated and alone - disconnected from everyone. You're unsure if therapy can help, but are willing to try.

Why do we make the choices that we do? Life provides unique experiences that affect people in different ways. These experiences contribute positively or negatively to our well-being and guide our life choices and impulses. It is important to honour the good things we have encountered but it is vital to address the challenges that we have faced, especially when they keep us stuck.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
