I work with clients 16+ from a gestalt, somatic, relational, creative and trauma-focused approach to meet you where you are and support you as you navigate being human.
I'll support you to begin to turn towards and explore your experience with curiosity, compassion and creativity; listen to the 'unspoken voice' of your body; deepen self-awareness and understanding; take risks; and discover more supported, connected and satisfying possibilities for being in your body, in relationship and in the world, here-and-now.

Using an embodied, somatic, and trauma-informed approach, I help you reconnect with your inner wisdom, regulate your nervous system, and realign with what feels deeply true.
Welcome — I’m Amy Mahoney, Counsellor and Embodiment Coach at The Crow’s Nest. My work is rooted in the belief that healing begins in the body — in the places where your truth, trust, and aliveness live. Together, we’ll create a grounded, compassionate space to listen to what your body, heart and soul are asking for, so you can move from survival into a fuller, freer sense of being.

I consider myself to be an eclectic practitioner. I employ many different therapeutic approaches including: Narrative, CBT, Solution Focused, Trauma Informed therapies, Mindfulness practices, ACT and Behavioural Modification strategies. I tend to work primarily from a Narrative Therapy approach, which is an approach to counselling that seeks to be respectful and non-blaming. It centres the client as the expert in their own lives and views problems as separate from the client themselves. Narrative Therapists assume clients have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will assist them in reducing the influence of problems in their own lives.

Drawing from existential, narrative, IFS, somatic, and humanistic approaches, my work is collaborative and creative.
I work with adults who are navigating in-between times and places, relationship struggles, grief and loss, and challenges that prevent them from fully showing up in their lives. I believe therapy is a place to strengthen connection to self, and also locate that self within larger systems. Our environments, cultures, institutions, and lineages influence us in different ways - to find our power, we must understand the world around us, and the stories we live within. My work with couples attends to the individuals and the dynamics between them.

Whether you're feeling stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand, overwhelmed by emotion, disconnected in relationships, or simply exhausted from holding it all together, I offer a space to slow down, tune in, and begin making sense of what’s going on beneath the surface. You don’t need to have all the answers before you begin therapy. You don’t even need to know exactly what’s wrong. In our work together, we’ll move at your pace, and I'm here to support you.

I work from the perspective that everyone has basic healthiness, a natural yearning for brilliant sanity and the wisdom of wholeness as part of their being. Conditioning and confusion can obscure these endowments but they are never absent. My job is to help draw out this wisdom for healing that is already there, by encouraging awareness. I begin with client-centered listening that honours where you are now, and the change you want. I then move into more experiential work to facilitate transformation. The contract for change and the pace of change is always in the client's hands

There are times in life when we need to tell our story and have it received within a context of trust. I work with individuals navigating life-transitions that are part and parcel of being human, but that may temporarily separate them from a sense of wholeness and thriving: particularly when facing loss, illness, crisis, or events that shatter our sense of self. Within the therapeutic context, my goal is to build a relationship with my clients that facilitates trust, self-knowledge, self-acceptance, and a renewed sense of hope.

I use a somatic-based, attachment-led, spiritually-informed, and trauma specialized approach that goes beyond traditional talk therapy.
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. Therapy is a collaborative process that uses curiosity, courage and compassion to start exploring and unpacking all of the parts of ourselves and our experiences so that we can become connected to our wholeness once again. There are times when we may feel haunted by our past experiences, are having difficulties coping with life transitions or stressors, or are feeling stuck. It is my belief that through gentle exploration we can start to find the inner resources needed to move through and grow from these difficult experiences.

I work with EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, IFS, Mindfulness & energy work.
Are you dealing with a recent trauma or trauma in childhood that you believe may be holding you back, getting easily triggered by things you feel should not be so hard to deal with. Do you feel sad or constantly anxious and worried, or feeling that life is pulling you down and you are not sure how to get back on track? Trauma/s, old beliefs and habitual patterns may be keeping you from finding enjoyment in your life. These things are challenging to deal with on your own sometimes, but by building awareness and strong inner resources and using body centered therapy techniques, you can live life with more peace and enjoyment.

These approaches emphasize emotional processing, somatic awareness, nervous system regulation, and adaptive meaning-making to support integration, resilience, and psychological flexibility.
I support people in breaking out of cycles of overthinking, self-criticism, self-doubt, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and intellectualizing. These patterns commonly show up as burnout, anxiety, overwhelm, procrastination, avoidance, low mood, imposter syndrome, shame spirals, or difficulty setting boundaries. If you’re used to pushing through, minimizing your own needs, or managing everything on your own, I aim to offer a different way forward.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
