I address a wide range of problems including: stress & anxiety; depression; unresolved anger; forgiveness; grief; bitterness; low self-esteem; identity crisis; conflict; family issues; marriage conflicts; crisis intervention.
My approach is to allow you to bring your past into the present so that you can develop skills that free you to thrive in the future. I provide a safe, open and encouraging space to equip and free you to do three things: * identify automatic negative, limiting or unproductive thoughts and behaviours, and imagine a life beyond them; * move from the bondage of those thoughts and behaviours, into a freedom of intention and choice where you can live life with purpose and passion; * develop the skill to sustain this freedom on your own.

I offer individual, couple (including pre- marital counselling), and group psychotherapy.
As a psychologist, I work with change. Change may involve shifts in awareness, attitude, behaviour, goals, acceptance, or coping strategies that will enhance your quality of life and well-being. Many obstacles can prevent us from living a satisfying life. These could be a history of trauma, invalidating relationships, habits that no longer serve us, or environments that may hinder our psychological growth. I can help you identify obstacles to your quality of life, develop strategies to tackle them, and set goals to increase and maintain your well-being.

I work with couples and individuals who are facing challenges in various areas, including relationship and marital issues, individuals looking to deepen their connection to their emotions or struggling with existential questions/crises, and those dealing with narcissism in close relationships.
Our emotions are a compass pointing us toward growth, healing, and meaningful change. I’ve spent my career learning how to listen to these emotional cues—and helping others do the same. My approach is rooted in years of clinical experience with children, adults, and families navigating life’s transitions and challenges. Using an attachment-based, developmental lens, I work with clients to bring context to their concerns, recognize unhelpful patterns, and shift the dynamics that no longer serve them—so they can show up differently, both in everyday moments and in life’s bigger chapters.

Gender-based violence, restorative approaches and narrative therapy have led me to work internationally. Locally, I have spent 25 years working for a trauma-informed community-based organization and for the past fifteen I have also worked for the Canadian Armed Forces. Currently I continue to speak publicly and train others about domestic violence. I co-founded the Canadian Domestic Violence Conference when I saw a need to bring more light to the subject. I am available to help couples work through the damages caused by domestic violence as well as to help individuals repair the harm done to them so they can move forward.

Marriage Counselling
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
