Are you looking for a practical, individualised and creative approach to tackling mental health difficulties for you or your child? Perhaps you have not found traditional talking therapies a good fit for you. Perhaps your teen needs support to break cycles of anxiety or depression. Perhaps your child has Autism or ADHD and struggles with their behaviour, attention, emotions or sensory processing. You might be looking for parenting support. You may want to incorporate nature, arts or other meaningful activity into your therapy journey. One size does not fit all. Imagine what change looks like for you.

Many of my clients come to therapy because life has felt heavy, overwhelming, or confusing for a long time. People often reach out to process past trauma, including difficult personal experiences or challenges related to military life, that feel too big to manage alone. They often want to find gentler, more effective ways to cope with stress, navigate daily life, and get relief from the emotional load they’ve been carrying. I work with adults who feel like they’ve had the weight of the world on their shoulders and are ready to feel like themselves again, while discovering ways to care for themselves without guilt or pressure.

You’re the one people rely on, and you’ve gotten really good at pushing through even when you’re overwhelmed. But you’re exhausted, and feeling disconnected from your relationships, your passions, and yourself. Whether you’re carrying trauma, burnout, or stress that’s affecting your outlook on life, you don’t have to hold it alone. Together, we’ll slow things down so you can feel more grounded, connected, and like yourself again. I use evidence-based therapies like EMDR, IFS, DBT & CBT to support individuals and couples through high-stress careers (eg: nurses, first responders, military personnel), trauma, and big life transitions.

We all deserve to live a genuine life—one that reflects what truly matters to us. A life where you feel content and connected to yourself and those around you. But there are times when life feels distressing, painful, traumatic, or simply not as meaningful as we’d like. Choosing to invest in yourself and your well-being is a powerful act of strength and courage. I believe therapy is a journey of self-discovery—uncovering what’s been holding you back from feeling fulfilled. It is about understanding how past experiences and relationships shape us and learning how to break free from patterns that no longer serve you.

I have been a social worker for 23 years, the last 11 of which have been specifically working with mental health and addictions. I am licensed to work virtually in BC, ON, NS, QC, YT, and NU. I use a strengths-based approach, recognizing that we all have strength but sometimes need support identifying them. Although I am well-versed in many aspects of mental wellness and illness, I particularly like to focus on trauma, helping individuals gain back the power they lost through their negative experiences. I work 100% virtually, with older teens and adults of all genders.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
