My approach is collaborative and non-judgmental, with influences from trauma-informed, and strength-based practices.

Therapy feels weird. At its core, it involves divulging the things we usually reserve for the safety of our journals (or our very attentive pets) to a total stranger. As someone who has been on both sides, I can promise that I understand how hard it is to take that first leap and book an appointment with someone. There are always internal questions about whether or not this person will bet he right fit or if you'll be starting over with someone new in a few weeks and having to retell your story. As a therapist, I pride myself in being open and authentic with the folks I work with.

When was the last time you experienced harmony with your core principles? At Hartwell Counselling, I provide a compassionate and transformative therapy rooted in evidence-based practices such as EMDR. EMDR which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and its the gold standard for treating and processing trauma. EMDR reduces trauma symptoms in a shorter time frame than the traditional talk therapy. Many clients have reported a reduction of traumatic symptoms after the initial few sessions of EMDR. EMDR is not a magic cure for trauma but it might produce some symptoms relief.

Change is never an easy process, but nothing worth doing is. Where there is struggle there is also opportunity for growth. Changing negative thoughts, feelings and beliefs takes work. Together we will sort through past traumas and current dilemmas. Our goal is to help you to enjoy life (hopefully again) and have faith in a better tomorrow. We all get lost from time to time, I am here to support you and to help you to find your way out of the darkness and back into the light . It is always darkest right before the dawn. You can change your life for the better. If your life is hard at the moment, it does not have to stay that way.

Have you ever felt lost or overwhelmed, especially in your relationship with yourself or others, but couldn’t quite understand why? Often, the patterns that leave us feeling unhappy or disconnected are rooted in unhealed trauma that hasn’t been fully processed or addressed. I take a holistic and non-pathologizing approach that focuses on uncovering the root causes of your distress. I believe that anxiety, depression, and other common diagnoses are not indications that something is “wrong” with you. Instead, they are often wise, protective responses from a body and nervous system that have experienced stress or threat.

I believe in our individual and collective capacity to heal and transform, and that we do not need to walk that path alone. I often work with people who are searching for a way back to safety, dignity and belonging in their relationships. I work at the edge of healing trauma and social justice with a belief that our pathways to healing are not just individual, but are shaped by cultural context. As a queer practitioner with lived experience, I am deeply aware of how legacies of trauma and oppression shape our pathways to connection. I am committed to prioritizing your agency and collaboration in our work together.
