I work collaboratively and sensitively with whatever issues you want to explore. This could include relationship challenges, emotional regulation, difficulties getting needs met, conflict aversion, poor self-concept, anxiety, depression and trauma. We may spend time exploring the past, but our focus will also remain on present-day experiences. Such work can help build self-understanding, self-compassion and emotional tolerance. It can help clarify thinking and enhance problem-solving. It is intuitive work – we start with where you are and what you want help with, and then find our way through the unknown together.

Accepting new clients for virtual counselling! Throughout life, we all move through different transitions: anticipated or unexpected, joyful or marked by grief. These transitions might look like the loss of a loved one, grief, career changes, relationship shifts, burnout, or questioning your identity or purpose. It’s a privilege to learn about clients’ life journeys and to help them recognize how many strengths and abilities they already possess. As a counselling therapist, I strive to support clients by collaborating together to explore what might be holding them back from living their desired story.

Hi! My areas of interest and expertise include working with people who have survived trauma and sexual abuse. My first goal is to build rapport and a trusting relationship with clients, and focus on establishing a sense of safety and stability. Safety and stability is an important component in allowing successful trauma processing and resolution to occur. I also enjoy working with adolescents; having once been a teen in need of additional support, I am able to empathize and quickly connect with young people. Other topics focused on at my practice are BPD, mood disorders, anger management, self-esteem, and relational issues.

Are you looking for someone who will listen deeply and work with you to help understand your struggles and find ways to ease your suffering? I believe each person has core gifts, strengths, and values that can become harder to access because of the demands of work, caregiving, painful life experiences, and systemic inequalities. In the midst of grief, burnout, anxiety, depression, substance use, and conflict, we can feel lost, stuck, isolated, and hopeless. Working with a therapist can offer ways to help you identify what you’re reaching for, what is in the way, and how to chart your own path rooted in your unique ways of being.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
