We all deserve to live a genuine life—one that reflects what truly matters to us. A life where you feel content and connected to yourself and those around you. But there are times when life feels distressing, painful, traumatic, or simply not as meaningful as we’d like. Choosing to invest in yourself and your well-being is a powerful act of strength and courage. I believe therapy is a journey of self-discovery—uncovering what’s been holding you back from feeling fulfilled. It is about understanding how past experiences and relationships shape us and learning how to break free from patterns that no longer serve you.

I work with adults dealing with various challenges such as anxiety, depression, developmental (childhood) trauma, parenting, life transition, grief, addiction, work stress/burnout, and interpersonal challenges (e.g. intimate relationships, family, work). I work with individuals ready to address old patterns/habits, identify how they get in the way of what's most important, and ultimately move towards a life lived fully and authentically.

Relationships can be one of the most meaningful parts of life, but they can also become strained when stress, miscommunication, or unresolved hurt builds over time. Many couples arrive feeling overwhelmed by recurring arguments, emotional distance, or the sense that they are no longer on the same team. I have a strong passion for couples therapy and creating a respectful space where both partners can speak honestly, feel understood, and begin to repair connection. Together we work to identify patterns, strengthen communication, and help couples move toward a more supportive and fulfilling relationship.

You keep it together for everyone. But who keeps it together for you? You look successful. You feel exhausted. You are holding a lot. A career, a reputation, a community — and underneath it all, a tiredness that sleep does not touch. Nova Scotia is a place where people push through. Where asking for help feels like admitting something is wrong. But the anxiety is getting louder. The disconnection is growing. You feel it in your body before you can name it. You have been strong for so long you forgot what it feels like not to be. You deserve more than coping strategies. You deserve real change. We can help.

I invite you practice a few deep breaths as you reflect on aspects of your journey that led you to this page. Have you been feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed? Exhausted or drained? Perhaps seeking to to learn new coping tools or wanting to develop your self-care practices? When we bottle up emotions and feel disconnected to both ourselves and others it can be difficult to access healing, recovery, and growth. Counselling can provide a space to press pause from busyness or turmoil. Seeking a safe space to rest. reflect, and to feel restored.

Are you looking for someone who will listen deeply and work with you to help understand your struggles and find ways to ease your suffering? I believe each person has core gifts, strengths, and values that can become harder to access because of the demands of work, caregiving, painful life experiences, and systemic inequalities. In the midst of grief, burnout, anxiety, depression, substance use, and conflict, we can feel lost, stuck, isolated, and hopeless. Working with a therapist can offer ways to help you identify what you’re reaching for, what is in the way, and how to chart your own path rooted in your unique ways of being.

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
