My specific areas of focus and interest include: parenting and family relationships, couples counselling, developmental trauma and attachment injuries, complex and/or chronic PTSD, Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder, existential anxiety/depression, ADHD/highly sensitive people, and spiritual growth/development.
I see therapy as a creative, collaborative process. I am influenced by by the work of Carl Jung, and I have received post-graduate training in a diverse set of treatment modalities (EMDR, IFS, ACT, CPT, PE, EFT). I enjoy using a unique blend of EMDR and IFS for deeper trauma work, but I am also comfortable with more traditional forms of talk therapy. For work with couples/families, I use a family systems approach and am well-suited to helping couple/family units navigate neurodivergence such as ADHD, highly sensitive people (HSP), BPD and Bipolar Disorder. I am open to and encourage discussing spirituality in our therapy sessions.

I strongly believe that the most powerful tool I have as a therapist is the ability to offer my clients an opportunity to share their stories without judgment. Having someone who treats you with kindness and unconditional positive regard while validating your emotional responses to life’s difficulties can be very healing. I have an abundance of experience in trauma treatment, including trauma from sexual assaults, human trafficking, and childhood abuse. I am also passionate about first-responder complex trauma. Another area I am passionate about it is sexual and relational health; I am a kink-aware, sex and body-positive person.

Therapy feels weird. At its core, it involves divulging the things we usually reserve for the safety of our journals (or our very attentive pets) to a total stranger. As someone who has been on both sides, I can promise that I understand how hard it is to take that first leap and book an appointment with someone. There are always internal questions about whether or not this person will bet he right fit or if you'll be starting over with someone new in a few weeks and having to retell your story. As a therapist, I pride myself in being open and authentic with the folks I work with.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
