With 17 years of experience, I look to nurture safe relationships when working with the parts of you that have been traumatized by sexual violence. Sexualized violence, both historical and or recent, can be crippling; however, as daunting as it may feel, traumatic experiences can be healed. Progress indicators include a decrease in triggers, an increase in self-worth, and a decrease in misplaced shame as you begin to feel unburdened. With this, you start to feel a sense of freedom and clarity in daily life again. Please know healing is possible, and you have the right to feel it. Warmly, Selina - MSW, BSW, RSW.

Life can be challenging, and being human is hard. We all carry experiences that can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves or unsure how to move forward. Therapy can be a space to feel seen, slow things down, and gently explore what you’re holding. I work with youth (14+) and adults navigating trauma, PTSD, depression, identity, sexuality, and overwhelming emotions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded, drawing from person-centered and emotion-focused therapies. Above all, I show up as a human first, supporting you in making sense of your experiences and reconnecting with yourself.

Humans are social animals; our brains are built for connection. We crave safe relationships to support us to feel, heal, deal, and grow. We all want to be the best version of ourselves, we just may not know what our best self looks like, or, may lack the support and experience required to discover such. When we are supported to identify and address the unmet needs that may block us from feeling like 'our best', we gain a greater sense of self. By understanding the impact of our relationships, attachments, and environments, we are able to truly make sense of the choices we make, and actions we may - or may not - take.

I truly believe that everyone can benefit from therapy, however some of my areas of interest include: stress, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, self-esteem and exploring inner child work. I personally believe in a client-centered approach and will draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities such as CBT or Internal Family Systems, however my personal philosophy is to work from an integrative, psychodynamic lens.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
