Hi, I'm Meg! Growing up with horses and competing in the discipline of English Show jumping, it was a natural lead into my career as a Counsellor and Coach. My focus on growth mindset training and development began when I saw a need for the use of positive language to accomplish goals in the sport and academic settings, professionally and in my personal life. Focusing on counselling clients who are neuro-diverse is very rewarding. Using equine assisted therapy, alongside other counselling approaches, I get to help clients gather an understanding of where they are at and strategies to get where they want to be.

Humans are social animals; our brains are built for connection. We crave safe relationships to support us to feel, heal, deal, and grow. We all want to be the best version of ourselves, we just may not know what our best self looks like, or, may lack the support and experience required to discover such. When we are supported to identify and address the unmet needs that may block us from feeling like 'our best', we gain a greater sense of self. By understanding the impact of our relationships, attachments, and environments, we are able to truly make sense of the choices we make, and actions we may - or may not - take.

Everyone has three different types of life; the first one is public life, the second is private life and the third is the SECRET life. Public life means the life everyone knows you as a person and the private life is the life your near and dear once knows but the secret life is the life no one knows about but YOU. In secret life, many of us have confusions, thoughts, feelings and desires that we have no place to express. Will you share those feelings with anyone? You have one who can study your life, understand your feelings, and emotions and guide you the right way is the beautiful stranger called a "Therapist".

Managing events of the past and planning for the future can feel overwhelming; especially when juggling life's changes and personal relationships. I believe the key for healing and growth is to gain a deeper awareness of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By understanding ourselves we can move beyond simply reacting to life and instead, build a life that truly feels authentic. Together, we can explore difficult feelings, identify patterns, and continue your personal growth in a supportive space where you can feel safe to share your experiences and build new strategies.

I aim to help clients by encouraging an exploration of their current state. My approach is non-pathologizing and as such I do not classify clients based on their symptoms, but rather seek to understand each individual's life experiences that led to their present situation. I work with clients to explore how and why their behaviours originated. We then create strategies to achieve goals by building on strengths and adapting patterns that are no longer useful. I view the healing process as learning and unlearning, which unfolds in the presence of a safe therapeutic space.

You may find yourself caught in patterns that no longer serve you, disconnected from the life you imagined or feeling stuck in grief. Perhaps you find yourself often overextending to meet the need of others’ while your own needs go unmet. Or perhaps you are experiencing a major life transition. You may long for deeper connection to a partner & perhaps feel invisible in your relationship. If you're feeling overwhelmed, unfulfilled, or simply ready for something different—you're not alone. Therapy can be a space to reconnect with yourself or your partner, unpack and process your past, & move forward with intention & clarity.

In my practice I seek to create a warm, open, and compassionate environment where you feel able to give voice to what is troubling you. Greater self-understanding can help you clarify what you value in life, build on your inner wisdom and strengths, and create paths to fulfil your desires. I honour people's resourcefulness and ingenuity in dealing with life's difficulties and injustices and respect the ways in which people cope with often overwhelming situations. Together we can work to determine what direction and approach best suits your needs. I practice from a place of cultural humility.

As a seasoned Registered Clinical Social Worker I have had the privilege of walking beside many people looking for guidance, support, insight and tools. They may be struggling with relationships, trauma, health, addiction, grief or life transitions. I believe people are the experts of their own lived experience but often need compassion, insight and guidance in an effort to move through what they are faced with.

Life can be stressful. Sometimes an unexpected event happens and knocks us to our knees. Sometimes we want a change but we’re unsure what steps to take. We may be facing one, or multiple, challenges - and it can feel like nothing will change. We feel overwhelmed by our anxiety, grief or anger. Yet, there is hope. It takes courage to ask for help and guidance as we figure out how to navigate through a new phase in our lives. Getting support is a sign of strength, wisdom, and self-care. Together we will explore your thoughts, emotions and bodily responses using a strength-based, culturally-responsive, trauma-informed approach.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
