My work is informed by evidence-based practices including Play Therapy, CBT , IFS, and Theraplay.
Children, adolescents, and families face a number of challenges that can interfere with mental wellness. Perhaps your child has experienced a recent life transition such as the death or loss of a loved one, a divorce, or relocation. Perhaps your child is struggling to cope with the effects of trauma, and to make sense of their world after this event. Perhaps you, as your child’s caregiver, are looking for support – to learn strategies to respond to your child’s intense emotions, to improve your family’s communication, and to enhance healthy attachment.

I typically use CBT , DBT, Systems Theory, Stages of Change Theory, Mindfulness and EFT.
Accepting new clients - Phone sessions available. Direct billing with Blue Cross. The first part of the getting-to-know-you process I will complete an initial assessment to help determine the depth of your depression, anxiety, unhealthy coping strategies and other areas that may be causing you to feel stuck. We repeat what’s familiar. Even though we know what is dysfunctional and not working well for us, we repeat behaviours because they are familiar. We can break old patterns and rewire our brain, forming new neural connections so that new thoughts and behaviours become the norm.

I am a Licensed Counseling Therapist candidate, (RCT-C) whose specific psychotherapeutic training is anchored in Drama therapeutic processes. This is a therapeutic approach that utilizes talk therapy and engages personalized creative expression for catharsis. It is an innovative approach for those who may be stuck in old patterns or need to explore new ways to better communicate them. Clients explore alternative solutions to challenges by rehearsing alternative cognitive /behavioral responses using “what if ” imagination. Engaging an element of guided, gentle imaginative physicality helps better express what might be suppressed.

From time to time, we all face challenges that can be overwhelming. Sometimes these challenges are situational, but they can also be the result of our lived experience(s) over time. Often they manifest as anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and self harm. These manifestations can lead to further challenges such as job loss, family conflict, isolation, and addiction. Although we may flounder or experience failure, we can develop the strategies needed to live a flourishing life. Integrative therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Positive Psychotherapy, and Solution Focused Therapy teach us how to live well.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors
Cognitive-behavioral therapy stresses the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the belief that thoughts, rather than people or events, cause our negative feelings. The therapist assists the client in identifying, testing the reality of, and correcting dysfunctional beliefs underlying his or her thinking. The therapist then helps the client modify those thoughts and the behaviors that flow from them. CBT is a structured collaboration between therapist and client and often calls for homework assignments.
