Life can be overwhelming; anger, stress, disconnection, past trauma, or challenging relationships can leave us feeling stuck, isolated, or unsure how to move forward. You don’t have to navigate it alone. I work with adults who want to understand the deeper roots of their emotions, reconnect with themselves, and build more meaningful connections with others. Stuck in your career? I help professionals and leaders manage stress, navigate toxic work environments, and find balance between work and personal life. Together, we explore new ways to communicate, connect, and live a life that feels aligned with your values and goals.

It might be hard to imagine what “better” could feel like — a life free from constant anxiety, depression, panic, or the heaviness of past experiences. You may have learned skills to manage symptoms, but no one told you that real healing is possible. I help people move beyond coping to actually resolving the root causes of their struggles. Together, we work to release the ways your body has held onto the past so you can feel lighter, calmer, and more present. With the right tools and support, change can happen faster than you think — and it can last.

Moreover, I have considerable experience working with individuals experiencing suicidal ideations.
I generally work from a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy approach, however, I believe it is important to remain client-centred and adapt from other treatment modalities when necessary i.e. Mindfulness, Solution Focused etc. I am currently booking virtual and in person counselling sessions.

As a Child Therapist, I appreciate the resiliency within each child, teen, and young adult I work with. They have many of the qualities to cope with day-to-day life and stressors.. it's my role to help identify, celebrate, and strengthen the ones they have and introduce new ones that could help. Whether the goal is to help youth with ADHD (or ADHD characteristics), anxiety, emotional regulation, or trauma, I can help both young people and their families navigate their unique pathways to wellbeing and good mental health. Step by step along your own path, I'll walk with you while you need some extra support.

Hi there, I’m Alex! Thanks so much for stopping by! I’m a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association with a background in Applied Social Psychology. Before becoming a counsellor, I spent several years working in the community sector, where I found my passion for supporting families, building connections, and helping people navigate life’s ups and downs. Those experiences taught me how powerful it can be to have a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported — something I strive to offer in my work every day.

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
