I am a Registered Psychotherapist with more than ten years of experience supporting individuals with their mental wellness. I believe that clients are the experts of their own lives and at times become stuck with internal conflict, ways of being, or are in situations that are not conducive to growth. I believe that everyone is on their own spiritual journey and that for some, participating in therapy can encourage deeper understanding and help to unearth meaning in their life. I enjoy helping clients work to identify the source of thoughts, feelings and concerns with the goal of arriving at a place of understanding and acceptance.

I take a person-centred, psychodynamic, attachment-focused approach to individual and relationship therapy.
Sometimes life asks more of us than we can comfortably carry. I offer a warm space where we can slow down, reflect, and explore your experiences. I support folks with several concerns, including trauma, anxiety, shame, and self-esteem. I also have a keen interest and training in relational dynamics, and I believe genuine human connection fosters health and healing. It’s because of this belief that I aim to show up authentically, with you, to help meet our innate need to feel seen, heard, and understood. Whether working to find practical interventions or curiously exploring, our work will remain grounded in theory and attuned to you.

My ideal clients are individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, grief, attachment wounds, chronic stress, PTSD, or nervous system dysregulation, especially those who feel traditional talk therapy has not fully resolved the deeper impact of their experiences. Many are emotionally exhausted from living in survival states such as fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. At my neuroscience-based clinic. I use specialized therapies including Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) to help clients process unresolved trauma, regulate the nervous system, and create lasting healing.

You may be coming to therapy because you’re ready for something in your life to change. Maybe you feel emotionally overextended, caught in painful relationship dynamics, struggling with meaning, or carrying more responsibility for others’ feelings than your own. You might look functional on the outside while feeling exhausted, resentful, or unseen on the inside. If any of that resonates, you are not alone and you don’t have to keep holding it by yourself. My approach to therapy is grounded, relational, and deeply respectful of your lived experience.

Hi there, I’m Alex! Thanks so much for stopping by! I’m a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association with a background in Applied Social Psychology. Before becoming a counsellor, I spent several years working in the community sector, where I found my passion for supporting families, building connections, and helping people navigate life’s ups and downs. Those experiences taught me how powerful it can be to have a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported — something I strive to offer in my work every day.

Hi, I’m Allanna. I’m an art therapist based in St. John’s, NL, working with adults. I also welcome a wide range of concerns and lived experiences. The focus is not on making “good” art, but on using materials to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and patterns.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
