I have experience working alongside adults, teens, and groups, and experience supporting people who have generalized anxiety, social anxiety, depression, and dealing with life stressors. I have further experience working with substance use, harm, and the impact that it has on people’s everyday lives. Lastly, I have an extensive background in the world of sports, especially hockey, and I am passionate about working with athletes, coaches, and teams, to help maximize their preparation, performance, and mental health in sport. I can help groups learn more about mental health and/or mental skills through presentations.

My name is Heidi Pond and I’m a St. John’s-based Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). I believe you are the expert in your own story, and my goal in therapy is to create a relationship built on trust and respect where you feel accepted and challenged to grow in new and meaningful ways. I support people in processing many kinds of concerns, including anxiety, depression, anger, panic, PTSD, developmental trauma, birth trauma and other experiences. I integrate trauma processing therapies like Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, inner child, parts work and other person-centred approaches to support you in healing and working toward your goals.

Making sense of our experiences, putting them in perspective, and changing unhelpful ways of thinking, behaving, and coping increases our resilience. I welcome individuals from all walks of life and have a particular interest in survivors of sexual violence and exploitation; first responders, frontline workers, military, veterans and their families; survivors of adverse childhood experiences; workplace stress and life transitions; and older adults.

With over 20 years of experience working with individuals and groups, I am passionate and experienced in building strong, nurturing relationships with my clients as we sort through life's challenges together. Particular areas of interest and expertise include stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, women’s issues, relationship issues, life transitions and personal growth. While some clients prefer short-term, highly structured sessions, others prefer a more longstanding, fluid relationship to support them through life's ups and downs. I am open to discussing all options and believe that flexibility and a sense of humour go a long way!

Dr. Sherry is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Dalhousie University. He has published 160 journal articles, delivered 275 scientific presentations and earned $2.5 million in grant funds. In 2018, Dr. Sherry and his wife founded CRUX Psychology, a team of 16 Ph.D.-level psychologists. We provide high-quality individual therapy, couples therapy and assessment.
