Healing and growth rarely happens all at once. More often, it unfolds one conversation, one insight with new learning, and one courageous step at a time. Through my many years of counselling youth and their families, I am continually thankful and awed by the courage and resilience I have had the privilege of witnessing. If you feel ready to take this first step, come join me. I will meet you where you are and work with you in finding your Way Forward.

Amanda has training in evidence-based approaches including Trauma-Informed Care, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Trauma Related Insomnia, and Somatic Therapy.
Protecting your mental health is essential. We all have problems, periods of stress and challenges in life that strain our ability to cope at times. However, when you have a mental or physical health issue that is taking a toll on your wellness, that becomes your main issue. If you're feeling dysregulated, which is common during times of stress, focusing on self-care, mindfulness, and grounding practices can help. If your nervous system is working hard to protect you, you may feel overwhelmed and you deserve support. During appointments, we can explore and develop strategies to help you feel like yourself again.

My ideal clients are individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, grief, attachment wounds, chronic stress, PTSD, or nervous system dysregulation, especially those who feel traditional talk therapy has not fully resolved the deeper impact of their experiences. Many are emotionally exhausted from living in survival states such as fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. At my neuroscience-based clinic. I use specialized therapies including Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) to help clients process unresolved trauma, regulate the nervous system, and create lasting healing.

You've always managed. Pushed through. Found workarounds. But somewhere in your 30s and 40s, everything got harder, the brain fog, the overwhelm, the feeling that you're falling apart just when life expects the most from you. Perimenopause is often the moment ADHD finally shows its face in women, or makes an already difficult condition nearly unmanageable. You're not losing your mind. You're not weak. You're dealing with something real that most providers don't understand, let alone treat.

ADHD • Anxiety • Depression • Trauma • Grief How do I keep going when life isn't what I expected it to be? Maybe you're exhausted by the everyday challenges of living with ADHD—trying to focus, stay organized, and get from knowing what needs to be done to actually doing it. Maybe you're carrying the weight of a traumatic experience that continues to affect your life. Or maybe you're lying awake worrying about someone you love, grieving a loss, or wondering what comes next. Sometimes the goal isn't to make the pain, worry, or overwhelm disappear. Sometimes it's learning how to live alongside it without losing yourself.

I foster a safe refuge where you can begin to unpack your lived experiences free from judgment. While honouring your story, I offer support in exploring what's working and deterring you from where you'd like to be. In doing so, pathways can be created to explore healthier ways to cope, live a more meaningful and authentic life, gain greater insight, and communicate your needs and boundaries with others. My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, strengths-based and draws from intersectional feminist theory. I integrate somatic therapy, mindfulness, Hakomi, narrative therapy, CBT, and learnings from neuroscience.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
