Attachment-based Therapists in Nackawic, NB
Hi, I’m Lauren! I know that starting therapy can feel intimidating, so my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely heard from the moment you walk in. I use a warm, person-centered approach and believe that therapy works best when there’s a strong and trusting connection between therapist and client. I also use CBT techniques to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours while building practical tools for everyday life. My hope is to help you feel seen, valued, and supported while we work together toward the goals that matter most to you.

I am an experienced Relational and Somatic Psychotherapist. My foundation is in relational talk therapy, grounded in the belief that healing happens when your story is explored in the presence of a compassionate witness. At the same time, our experiences don’t only live in our minds. Stress, trauma, and emotion are also held in the nervous system and body. I offer an integrated, mind–body approach to therapy, weaving conversation and insight with body-based practices such as Somatic Experiencing, IFS-informed parts work, and breath-based techniques. This supports deeper, more lasting change by addressing both mind and body together.

Do you remember when you were learning how to ride a bike? Undoubtedly, the process of learning was through trial, error, and perhaps guidance from a caregiver. It’s a common misconception that a therapist’s role is to simply give advice. That is not the case. My role in our therapeutic relationship is to guide you through the process – just like learning to ride a bike for the first time. It takes effort, time, and perhaps some discomfort…But the “aha” moment of finding balance brings a sense of freedom and independence.

I use attachment-based and body-centered empirical research, body movement, EMDR, parts work, and expressive techniques in my practice.
Hi, I'm Alex! I'm experienced in helping other adults who feel stuck in life or disconnected from themselves or their bodies. This happens for many combinations of reasons, and is common in our modern day and social systems with more technological connection but less authentic connection. I often work with people who have tried cognitive/talk therapies and are ready for something different that can lead to deep, lasting internal change, and people who are aware of patterns and the "why" of things but want more than a toolkit of coping skills and regulation tactics.

I am passionate about working with people who are embarking on or already undergoing change, whether that involves loss, identity transitions, personal growth, or any other life passage. I work with adults (18+) across the lifespan including elders (65+), first responders, and military personnel.
Like all clinical social workers, I believe in meeting my clients where they are. For me that means speaking your language. I do this by reflecting back what you say and offering you new ways to talk about your challenges, freeing you from judgments, diagnostic terms, and medical jargon. This can transform the way you see your challenges.

I seek to support clients in their journey to growth, insight, and an increased sense of wellbeing. It can be a big step for many to decide to pursue counselling and I want to help make the experience as comfortable as possible for my clients. I aim to meet clients where they are at. Counselling is a space for the client to decide what they wish to cover and at what pace. I work collaboratively with clients to come up with ways to address their concerns.

If you’re dealing with anxiety, trauma, or overwhelming emotions, it can feel like your reactions are automatic—like you’re stuck in patterns you can’t control. Overthinking, shutting down, or feeling constantly on edge can become part of daily life. The good news is that these responses are learned, which means they can also change.
Real change doesn’t come from simply knowing what to do—it comes from practicing new ways of responding in everyday life.

I belief that a person is the expert of their own life, but sometimes may lose their way. That's where I can help you muddle through the feeling of being overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, angry, hopeless, or whatever feelings you are having, and help you find your balance in life. I believe that you are not your diagnosis, but knowing about your diagnosis will help you

I work with individuals feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected—often navigating anxiety, burnout, overthinking, or life transitions. Many are thoughtful, high-functioning individuals seeking more than short-term relief, and are looking for deeper insight, clarity, and lasting change.
My approach is grounded in the mind-body connection, helping clients build psychological flexibility, strengthen self-awareness, and shift patterns that no longer serve them. Together, we create a focused, supportive space to gain clarity and move forward with greater intention and resilience.

My approach to counselling begins with creating a comfortable, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where you can show up as your true self. As a queer therapist, I understand the importance of feeling seen and affirmed, especially for those navigating identity, relationships, and systemic barriers. I use an integrative, evidence-based approach, drawing from Person-Centered, Humanistic, Queer Theory, CBT, DBT, and Affirmative Therapy approaches. I am also trained in EMDR therapy. Together, we will co-create goals, build resilience, and develop skills and coping strategies to help you move toward meaningful change and well-being.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
