I enjoy using a CBT, Person Centered & Strengths Based approach for challenges including anxiety, depression, self-esteem/confidence, stress, and relationship issues.
Through my work with Indigenous youth and an education degree focused on supporting Indigenous learners, I recognize the intergenerational impacts of colonization. Becoming part of an Indigenous family deepened my cultural humility and relational accountability. I provide therapy that is culturally responsive, grounded in respect, community & collaboration.

Located outside Fredericton in Hanwell, NB, I work with adults and youth and children from diverse backgrounds who are faced with a variety of mental health and social concerns. Specifically, I specialize in the social-emotional issues of trauma, ptsd, depression and anxiety. Life can already be challenging, but worry, stress, fear, doubt, guilt, sadness, frustration, or disappointment. It is my belief that we have the resources to effectively manage the challenges that we are confronted by. We might just need a reminder about what those strengths and skills are. And it couldn't hurt to learn a new technique to improve our wellness.

Your child is kind, curious, and full of potential, but lately big feelings seem to be getting in the way. Maybe they’re struggling with anxiety, changes at home or school, or difficulties with peers. You’ve noticed they’re more sensitive, withdrawn, or easily frustrated, and you just want to help them feel like themselves again. You’re looking for a therapist who truly connects with kids: someone warm, playful, and skilled at turning therapy into a space that feels safe, engaging, and full of growth.

I provide counselling services to adults of all ages and adolescents (aged 14+). I believe each client is unique and tailor my practice to each individual. I know that reaching out is difficult, so an empathetic, anti-oppressive approach to care is my top priority. I am trained in various modalities, including dialectical behaviour therapy, EMDR, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioural therapy. My approach is variable, depending on what you would like to work through. I often draw from many of these practices.

Additionally, with those wishing to better manage stress/anxiety/burnout, make positive changes in their routine, improve their self-esteem, or are navigating changes in their life.
We will likely start with assessing what you are currently experiencing, discussing what concerns are new and which ones are longer standing (but maybe are less easy to manage lately), and which strategies and habits you are already engaging with. We will then collaborate to create a plan to support you through this journey.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
