I work with clients of various background such as veterans, pre and post natal individuals, sexual assault victims, individuals who have experienced traumatic events, and clients who are curious about somatic psychotherapeutic approaches (mind-body connection).
I am a trained EMDR therapist who mainly focuses on the integration of the mind-body connection. Traditional talk therapy is often rooted in exploration of the mind and thoughts, I am interested in expanding of those connections by exploring the body responses and expressions as I support that trauma is held in the body.

I am passionate about working with people who are embarking on or already undergoing change, whether that involves loss, identity transitions, personal growth, or any other life passage. I work with adults (18+) across the lifespan including elders (65+), first responders, and military personnel.
Like all clinical social workers, I believe in meeting my clients where they are. For me that means speaking your language. I do this by reflecting back what you say and offering you new ways to talk about your challenges, freeing you from judgments, diagnostic terms, and medical jargon. This can transform the way you see your challenges.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is hard, but it's the first step towards growth. My favourite place to start with most clients is building better self esteem, which can be a great internal motivator. I support my clients as they learn self-compassion, how to make realistic goals, effective communication, and how to form healthy boundaries. I am an enthusiastic and knowledgeable ally to queer, gender non-conforming, and trans communities! I enjoy supporting and welcoming newcomers to Canada with their unique perspectives. I also have experience working with clients dealing with addiction/substance use disorders.

The most crucial part of successful healing in therapy, is your relationship with your therapist. I hope to provide a safe, calming space without judgement. Here, I accept all of you, both the parts of you that are loved and the parts that are unloved. Telling anyone about your experiences is hard and often we hold back to protect ourselves and/or those around us. Sometime we can't really pinpoint why we feel stuck. Sometimes we become so skilled at shutting down our pain that we start to see it leak out in other ways, like panic attacks and body pain. I am here to listen and help guide you towards a healthier and happier self.

You can expect to be offered the opportunity to engage in somatic (body-based) interventions and in imagined encounters with another part of the self or with significant others.
I provide a warm and accepting space for clients to be seen, heard, and supported while they explore their emotional selves and their connections with others. My areas of practice include grief, anxiety, depression, and shame, particularly as they become more problematic during life transitions. I am oriented towards longer-term work around root causes, such as childhood relational trauma. My approach is an integration of Bioenergetic Analysis and Emotionally Focused Therapy, both of which have a base in attachment theory and view emotional processing as critical to healing. I am particularly interested in working with therapists.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
