When anxiety, relationship stress, attention challenges, or the general “my brain is doing a lot right now” feeling starts piling up, life can get complicated fast. If your brain tends to run in a lot of directions at once, you’re not alone. I work with teens, adults, and parents who are thoughtful, capable, and often carrying more internally than people around them realize. Many are used to being the thoughtful one for others but rarely get space to sort through their own experiences. Together, we slow things down and build changes that feel doable — not like another item on your already crowded list.

Sometimes it feels like we are doing everything we can to hold it all together and yet it's not getting any better. You are definitely not alone! I grew up in a small town but moved to Fredericton 12 years ago to acquire my BA in Psychology & Sociology, and my Masters in Counselling Psychology. I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) in addition to a Licensed Counselling Therapist (LCT). When I'm not fuelling my soul with sports, friends/family and some yummy food at a local restaurant, I am in the office doing my dream job of supporting children, youth and adults as they find ways to feel their best.

Sometimes life's problems can seem overwhelming– when we do not know how to deal with them we can become 'stuck'. But once problems are shared with another, they become more tangible and that is a good starting place! The beauty of therapy is that the counsellor becomes a sort of 'tour guide' for exploring challenges and, in collaboration, determining a way forward. Getting those recurring thoughts out of your head and into the real world for exploration is the first step to feeling better. So, no matter the size of your challenges, I promise to provide genuine compassion and warmth to support you in this process.

As an anxiety and trauma therapist, many of the clients I work with are high-functioning adults navigating perfectionism, people-pleasing, childhood wounds, relationship struggles, or the lasting effects of trauma. This may look like overthinking conversations, struggling to relax, feeling emotionally stuck, or constantly questioning whether you’re “good enough.” Even when life looks “fine” on the outside, internally it can feel like you’re carrying pressure you can never fully let go of, and it’s overwhelming. Everyone else may not always see it, but you feel it and know it can overtake you at any moment.

If you’re dealing with anxiety, trauma, or overwhelming emotions, it can feel like your reactions are automatic—like you’re stuck in patterns you can’t control. Overthinking, shutting down, or feeling constantly on edge can become part of daily life. The good news is that these responses are learned, which means they can also change.
Real change doesn’t come from simply knowing what to do—it comes from practicing new ways of responding in everyday life.

Therapy that actually gets ADHD.
If you have ADHD, it’s normal to feel unsure about what you need from therapy, especially when most therapists aren’t trained to support neurodivergent minds.
At The Therapy Nest, many of our therapists have lived experience with neurodivergence and are certified ADHD service providers. We're also trauma-informed, which means we create a space that’s not only ADHD-affirming but also deeply safe and sensitive to your past experiences.

How does therapy for self-harm work?
A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behaviour therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.
Which therapies are best for self-harm?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.
Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?
Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
