We may have a lot in common, or a little; both can be useful. Oftentimes the situations we find ourselves in hinge on balancing our inner and outer worlds. So many of our challenges arise when we are unable to differentiate the two and determine where our own perspectives and power lie. The first step in setting goals is identifying the starting place. Along with a Phd, I have over twenty years experience since completing a Masters of Social Work degree including community based activism and direct practice with individuals, families and groups. I continue to teach post secondary education and bring these principles into counselling. Identity, both personal and cultural is central in healing and growth.
As a counsellor, my role is to guide the process, understanding the ways identity and environment meet, and to help strengthen both to help face whatever may come. Therapy is a lot like creative writing, and you are the author of your own story. In sharing that story with me, together we can craft new chapters, creating the future that you want.
