Down to earth and experienced therapist who does his best to be of help wherever you find yourself in life. Most folks who come through my doors struggle with all sorts of things that life throws at them—relationship difficulties, mental health struggles, issues from childhood, trauma, addiction, separation/divorce and much more. My approach is tailored to who you are and I do my best to help you become the best version of yourself. Life might feel hard and hopeless right now but I find perspective changes everything. Sometimes chatting things out helps us realize the tools that we need are right in front of us.

There are times in a person's life when they reach an interior impasse. For any number of reasons, the realization gradually dawns on them that their inner freedom has been compromised and there is no clear understanding why. Often, this takes place in the context of relationship, whether with their spouse, family, friends or colleagues. While a family physician, social worker or another health professional can and do help, sometimes what is also needed is the help of a psychotherapist trained and certified in the art and science of talk therapy, the bedrock of all psychotherapy models. It can be the key to change and inner freedom.

There are so many things in life that impact us and sometimes we all need a little support. Counselling can provide a safe place to help untangle oneself from the impact of difficulties in life, to gain new insight, to regain strength, to find healing, and to renew one's hope. It is a privilege to journey alongside individuals and couples seeking change in their lives, to be invited into their stories, to witness growth, and to see hopes come true. Everyone has a unique story, ways of seeing and experiencing the world, and hopes. With deep compassion, curiosity, and guidance I use a client centred approach to support my clients.

If you had to describe your life in one word, it might be: "overwhelmed". You keep thinking, "why can't I just get over this already?" You want a space where you don't have to perform, explain or be the strong one. You want the freedom to explore you again, and get unstuck from the constant reel of thoughts in your head. We all struggle at times, experience illness, relationship challenges, stress, changes in our mood and uncertainty regarding our future. The demands of life, such as school, work, parenting and caregiving can be challenging and we all need support.

Of course, personal experiences and situations vary wildly. That said, navigating the changes, challenges, and chaos of life are universal aspects of the human experience. I believe that everyone can use some help figuring out how to deal with the challenges that we all face. My warmth, compassion, and empathy work together with my training and life experience as a husband, and father to the biological, adopted and foster children that are part of my family. This creates a place of safety for clients to share the parts of their lives that they are struggling with. As a therapist, I aim to walk along with my clients without judgment, helping them to use their strengths to discover new paths forward.

You might look like you have it all together, but behind the scenes you’re overwhelmed, overthinking, struggling to keep up, or wondering why things that seem easy for everyone else feel so hard for you. I work with teens and adults navigating ADHD, autism, and learning difference - whether you’re newly diagnosed or finally trying to understand yourself. I also support families and couples where neurodivergence is creating stress at home, from constant reminders and miscommunication to emotional overload, burnout, and feeling stuck in the same patterns.

Hi, I’m Kelsey. I’m a mother of three, a spouse, a sister, a friend, and a community advocate. Each of these roles has taught me about love, resilience, messiness, and growth — and all of that is at the heart of how I walk alongside those I support. Therapy has been deeply transformative for me. It has — and continues to — support me through the many layers of motherhood, while helping me reconnect with myself in ways I didn’t know I needed. That lived experience is what led me to this work, and my hope is to offer that kind of space to you.

Hello and welcome. I’m Shelby, a psychotherapist and registered social worker at Gibson and Associates. If anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, or the state of the world are feeling heavy, therapy can be a place to slow down, gain clarity, and feel supported. Many couples come to therapy when the relationship no longer feels like it used to. Communication has broken down, the same arguments keep repeating, or you feel more like roommates than partners. Maybe trust has been damaged, resentment has built up, or you're navigating separation, parenting stress, or family conflict. You miss feeling close, understood, and connected. As a couples therapist, I help partners rebuild trust, improve communication, and strengthen emotional connection. Change is possible, and you don't have to find your way back to each other alone.

Life brings unexpected challenges. You might feel overwhelmed, stuck in painful patterns, or exhausted from trying to hold everything together. Anxiety, obsessive thoughts, relationship stress, and the impact of trauma may affect how you feel about yourself and others. I routinely support folks who are navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, anger, life transitions, self-abandonment, relational trauma, including intimate partner violence (IPV), relationship trauma, and attachment wounds. This work can be challenging, but I’m committed to moving through it with you with compassion, hope, and moments of humour along the way.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
