YES I am taking clients! If you are looking to start or expand your journey towards mental wellness, I can help. Whether you have a specific mental health concern, experienced a trauma or stressful life event, or feel that things just seem a bit "off", counselling can help everyone in a variety of ways. I can help you better understand yourself and your actions/reactions to your environment, which allows space for a calmer, clearer life path. Therapeutic exploration and re-establishing connection to our 'felt sense' (our mind-gut-body connection) can provide the safety, relief and empowerment needed to heal and move forward.

While the people in your life are important to you, you somehow feel unsettled in your relationships as you try to cope with having a lack of joy and contentment. You may be struggling with the sense of not being good enough. You may also feel lonely and isolated as your relationships simply aren't thriving as you would hope. Self-doubt and a lack of confidence often add to the weight of worry and sadness you may be experiencing. Finding it difficult to express your needs and wants, you feel at a loss, which can often lead to hurt, anger, or frustration. Your heart yearns for connection, but it seems far from reach.

Do you have thoughts like ‘My child’s behavior is out of control!’, ‘I love them so much, but I feel like I’m at the end of my rope’, or ‘Why won’t my child just listen, they’re embarrassing me!’. Maybe you find yourself losing your temper and getting angry at your child more often. This might make you feel ashamed, and you may begin blaming yourself and feeling judged by teachers, family members, other parents, your partner(s). You feel confused and like you have tried everything from books to webinars, to doctors and other types of therapy but nothing seems to have helped.

It's not just you, life HAS gotten harder in the last few years. If you've been powering through, staying strong and carrying on, but now you're barely getting by and you're tired of feeling like you're not really living your life, it might be time for outside support. The benefit of therapy is that it's a time where you get to focus on yourself, to look at your life, and to get an outside perspective on how it could be different. You don't have to just endure, with the right support, you can heal from the past, and move forward towards a better future.

There are times in our life when it feels like nothing we do makes a difference. Problems become complicated by issues associated with our struggles managing mood or anxiety, feelings of shame, or coping with grief and loss. Situations such as transitions related to life stages, conflict or loss of connection in significant relationships, or changes in mental well being can be distressing and overwhelming. I work hard to build collaborative alliances with clients to co-construct different narratives about our relationship with problems, and develop alternative personal stories of strength, growth and recovery.

How can I find a therapist in N0H?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
