When we aren't feeling like the best version of ourselves, it's tough to engage in our lives and relationships in the way we would like to; our daily stress adds up and pulls us away from the things and people that are important to us. Whether little things in your life are piling up and becoming overwhelming or you are in the midst of a major life transition, accessing support is an important first step to living a values-driven life. Dedicating time and space to process our thoughts with an unbiased listener can build the insight we need to thrive.

Most people will face challenges in their lives, whether it's symptoms of a mental health concern (e.g. anxiety/depression) or situational (e.g. work, relationships). These challenges can lead us off track, struggling to cope and we find ourselves feeling unfulfilled or distressed. I work with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, stress, relationship issues, trauma, grief and work/life balance concerns. I aim to tailor my approach to each individual client so they feel able to implement the change they want. This may include a focus on learning skills or building a deeper awareness.

Accepting new clients - I firmly believe that the client is the expert of their story and I recognize the importance of therapists and clients working together in a collaborative space in which to explore any obstacles to growth. I also understand that it can be scary and intimidating to reach out and ask for support. It is with this understanding that I work to create and offer an empathetic and supportive space while acknowledging that each of us have unique needs, strengths, and goals. Together, we can explore how these have and continue to shape experiences, perspectives, and identities.

We are often faced with immense pressure and challenges in life that can leave us feeling lost or unsure of ourselves, and feeling emotions we don’t even understand and it gets harder to keep pretending everything is okay. Let me be that safe space for you to explore those feelings and challenges. My passion for being a therapist comes from seeing the empowerment that occurs when a person is provided the support and a safe environment where they can be seen and heard. Every person has their own narrative, every person is capable of living the life they want, and I aim to empower that person to take control of their story.

Life can be challenging and complicated. We might be able to deal with most of the problems that come our way, and sometimes we face a problem that feels hard to manage on our own (and we shouldn’t have to do it alone!). This problem may be something we are battling with internally or with people in our lives. It can be beyond our control or we might not know how to solve it or even where to start. Many of us find it hard to manage or regulate our emotions. Let me support you in discovering the strength and resilience you have hiding beneath these challenges and let’s work together to overcome the things that are holding you back.

Life can be really challenging. Family dynamics and difficult personalities can make you feel like you’re reliving painful moments from the past. Being a parent, or trying to become one, can bring heartache and frustration. Infertility, loss, illness and anxiety can make life feel heavy, difficult, and rid you of vitality. This is where I come in to help. I can take you to better places. Healing doesn’t mean the pain never existed; it means the pain no longer controls our lives. I will create a space where you will feel safe and unconditionally supported to explore your thoughts, feelings, and worries, without judgement.

I would like to start by acknowledging your first big step on your path to emotional wellness, well done! Searching for a counsellor is a daunting task. Please take some time to review profiles, see who speaks to you, and reach out to see if there is a connection. Everyone feels a bit lost at times and sometimes we need a little guidance to think about things differently or to try something new. I would love the opportunity to meet with you as an individual, or with you and your partner as a couple, to learn about your life, struggles, and aspirations and then see how we can work together to bring more peace to your life.

In person/online ->You may be unsure of what you're looking for but feel there are parts of yourself that seem out of touch with the world and yearn to feel, see, and experience more in your life. It can feel overwhelming to sit with a stranger and explore new and vulnerable parts of yourself but I promise to make you feel safe and heard. Often times our areas of needed growth are exposed through this vulnerability which allows us to explore parts of ourselves that weren't accessible before. I help individuals find connection with the things they care about most in their lives.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
